I am a Govt Contractor living in MD but working in N.VA. On 18 Feb I had what I thought was a successful interview with a big contractor for a position in MD, about 20 miles from my house. As soon as I got home from the interview I sent an e-mail to the Project Manager and Security Manager thanking them for interviewing me and asking them when I would hear something. Last week I interviewed with another contractor and was offered a position but I would have to take a $6/hr cut in pay and it would reduce my commute by only 40 miles a day. Right now I am driving 110 miles a day!! So I called the PM with the first company and left her a voice message asking when they would let me know something. I ended up turning down the second position but at this juncture I can not afford that big of a cut in pay. Should I back off contacting the first company anymore? In the mean time I applied for two positions with another contractor and the status of those is "hiring manager review". The position I initially applied to would be a sweet job, the hours are the same as I work now and would be far less stressful then what I do now. And, they would be able to come very close to or match my current salary. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |
