Why so angry?

People get stoplossed. It happens.

Someone was bound to make a movie about it.

Movie bitching about a feature of the military enlistment contract...

Stop-loss is something all troops agree to when they sign up - basically if the military needs you to deploy, they can extend your contract until after your unit returns from it's mission...

And it makes a lot of sense.

Anyone ever read We Were Soldiers Once and Young? Hal Moore kept talking about how the Johnson administration's stupid policies forced them to leave behind any men who had 60 days or less left to serve. So a large number of men (the most experienced in the unit) were taken away from them just before they deployed to Vietnam. They were shipped off to fight sadly understrength.

IMO, Stop-Loss isn't something one would consider pleasant if snagged by it. But it sure as hell beats the alternative.

Stop loss. Something I know well. I got stopped loss on a second trip to Iraq. I knew it was probably going to happen. I didn't bitch or cry about it, it goes with the business. Anti-war crackpots will use any kind of excuse to say the war is bad.

And all the of the movies and tv series they have come out to date about the Iraq war have been TERRIBLE.

Yeah...

1st Cav going to Vietnam is a perfect example...

They lost all their experienced LTs (platoon leaders), and got a fresh batch of 'replacement' officers straight out of school, just before they left... Along with many other experienced troops who's 'time was up'...

Several of those new LTs did very well in Vietnam... Some of the others made some rather fatal mistakes due to inexperience & over-eagerness....

Yeah, and they still did very well. Although Hal Moore was a brilliant commander, and any lesser Colonel probably would have lost that fight.

The anger is from the fact that the movie glorifies someone saying "fuck you" when he gets stop lossed and refusing to go. He figures he doesn't owe anyone anything cause he already went once already.

I got news for him.

There are thousands of soldiers who have been stop lossed. They didn't like it, but they did it anyway, because it was the right thing to do. There are also soldiers who have been deployed 4, 5, or even MORE times and they don't whine about it. My best friend got stop lossed and went back, and we didn't try to smuggle him into Canada.

The movie is BULLSHIT.

I like the quote i keep seeing in the commercial. "I fulfilled my end of the contract wish my country would do the same" or something like that. Stop loss is part of the contract .

Considering the track record of all the recent anti-war movies, I predict this will be showing on "Lifetime" in six months.

The only stop loss I knew about before this thread was the market order.  Was wondering why people were so pissed off about it
