Anybody have any suggestions for good electronic in ear or around ear hearing protection.  I shoot often and need to be able to hear range commands etc.  I would also consider wearing something on duty...but I think that would end up being too problimatic.  Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.  I've been looking into Surefire's "Fox Ears" and E.A.R. Inc.'s Tac SHS II.

Peltor com tac is pretty good. Keeps bad noise out and lets you hear normal conversations plus you can attach communication equipment and use it with your radio.

Pro Ears series.    No exposed wires. No cutout. Completely directional.
Low battery shuts off 1 muff. Great customer service.

These work pretty good and aren't too pricey.

I have the Peltor Tac 6. They worked very well at first but after ten or twelve hours of range time one side is dead and the other seems diminished.

Could be that sweat damages them.  I prefer to shoot in the cold but even then you sweat a tiny amount.

Pro-ears seem good. I like how it doesn't cut out the sound. I don't have any experience with them, but they'll be the ones I get.

Before you buy, be SURE to check out the dB rating on a set of ears! Many are a mere 20-22dB, which isn't very good. You want to be as close to 30dB as you can possibly get, IMO.

*I* haven't tried them yet, but I have looked into them. They DO have to be "fitted" in order to work properly. Many shooters wear them in IPSC locally when they shoot race guns. It gives an additional measure against the noise, they say.

The ones I've priced aren't cheap, they start at around $150 & go up from there. I only looked at one or two places, there may be much cheaper ones to be found.

My issue with ear plugs for me is getting dirt in my ear canal. My ears don't care for this, so *I* stick with muffs. Keeps my ears warm in the winter too.

I use Peltor Swat Tac IIs. They are great, nice fit and comfortable. The only issue as mentioned above is their low Db rating of 19. Outdoors they are fine, however indoors with my SBR or other stuff, I double up and wear inner plugs..

These

are not cheap but they fit around your ear and have a db rating of 29. Cabelas has several different brands and models of in ear hearing protection/enhancers. They go from a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand.
