I need to find a fixed blade fighting knife, anyone have any recommendations on knives they've bought? And where I can get them.

Also where has a good selection of the H&K knives?

Thanks guys

Thats the most expensive KBAR style I have seen.
I was going to recomend the regular KBAR. I dont
know enough about this type of steel to make a good
comment.

The regular KBAR is hard to beat. Hell, for the money
the Cold Steel G.I.Tanto is a good buy. Great peice of
steel there. No frills at all.

+1 on that.  I have an all black plain edge Ka-Bar in the standard length with a rubber handle and Kydex sheath.  It has served me well as a camp/survival knife.  I prefer plain blades over serrated because plain is easier to sharpen.  My Ka-Bar only cost me about $40.  There's no reason to pay $150+ for one.  Plus, if you manage to break it, you're only out $40 instead of over $150.

I bought mine from Knifecenter.com, and it looks like the price went up from $40 to a couple bucks over $60.  I bought my knife from them several years ago.  I've bought a lot of knives from them over the years and they've been great to do business with.

Here's mine: www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=KA1213

I think buying a knife without knowing what steel the blade is made from is like buying a rifle without knowing what caliber it is.  Would you buy a rifle if you didn't know whether you were getting a .22LR or a .300 WinMag?

Good links, thanks for posting them.  Looks like the standard Ka-Bar is made with 1095 carbon steel.

That Ka-Bar is a nice one.  D2 is one of my favorite blade steels and I have several folders and a fixed blade (Ontario TAK1) made with it.

Here's another similar (I think better) knife in D2 steel for about $40 less:

Good ol' 1095 can be a great blade steel if properly heat-treated.  It's probably the easiest to sharpen in the field.

My favorite fighters in 1095 are the BlackJack Randall copies.  I have three BlackJacks (two recent; one vintage) and they are great blades.

It all depends what you are going to use it for.

I have a Cold Steel Bushman that is a great knife for the price. You can find the for under thirty bucks.
