Link The comments are interesting. One guy was spot on w/regard to the 2nd - which one of you was that? "The 2nd Amendment reminds the government that you have the right to own a standard military weapon (hence the inclusion of the militia phrase). The right was guaranteed so that we, the people, could rise up against threats both foreign and domestic. These included oppressive governments at home. There are many period writings on the subject that show this in clearer terms than those used in the Bill of Rights. This is exactly what the 1939 ruling spoke to, saying that since sawed-off shotguns are not militia weapons, they could be restricted by the state. The 1939 ruling is very important. Read it before you claim anything about modern weapons not being envisioned by the founding fathers." |
