My key gives me access to the warehouse which stores millions of dollars of computer and server equipment.
My key gives me access to the data room which houses servers that hold millions of dollars of information. One false move can put a company down for days if not weeks costing God knows how much money.
My key gives me access to the alarm system 24/7 in the event that something goes seriously wrong and I need to get access to the entire building including all the companies in the building in which I do not work for.
I try and access the broom closet with my key to get a five dollar mop and I get the red light.

Nice to know I'm not alone. I've been deemed "critical personnel" and in the event of some sort of disaster or emergency, I must be here. In the event that the bldg. is done for, I get to load up on a plane and head for Colorado, SF or Washington. All of this and it took nearly six months to get about half the access I really need...even still, my key only works about 50% of the time on a weekend or holiday.

It's because you don't respect the mop enough. Those things cost at least $8.

Me too, but mine lets me into the broom closet where the TP is.

Sounds like our workplace.

We can designate a blue shirt to be "Acting Shift Commander" for the City... or hell, for that matter, promote him to a Lieutenant.

He rides the "Commander's Buggy" when on duty, is responsible for several million dollars of equipment and (on certain days) is the HMFIC for over 50,000 people.

But the administration won't give him (or her) a key to the supply cabinet where the TP, cleaning solutions, spare exam gloves (kind of important for a FD based EMS) or power (shop) tools are kept.

I have access to *everything* at work... including the storage closets and the arms room.

Working from home is great!    I don't even have a keycard for the local office or the orbiting mothership in NY though...

Uuuummmmm NO!

If I went for the broom someone else would file something to get paid for me to do his work.
