I am looking to buy a new 9mm and i am really interested in the XD 9's with the 5" barrel... can you guys share some of your experiences with these handguns? Also are there any online vendors you guys recommend? I Can get my uncle to order me one but i would like to support a vendor on the board if i possible.... THANKS! |

Good gun, only problem I had was a weak extractor but sent it back to Springfield and came back like new. Put probably 2000rds total through it, only complaint was no fingered grooves like a Glock. I wanted a compact and fingered grooves so I sold it and got a G19. Havent looked back. |

I own a 4" and a 5". The 5" has Trijicons which I love. I'm very very happy with both guns, I'd previously owned a couple Beretta 9mm's but find the XD's much more ergonomic and easier to shoot accurately. I shoot the 5" in production USPSA and 3 Gun. I'm considering trying to buy another 5" to turn into a Limited or Open gun but my project list is long and the time might not be there this year. Got my 5" used for $405 with 4 high cap magazines, 4 kydex mag holders and the Trijicons. Owned a Glock, great gun, just wrong grip angle. |
Are the groves you are talking about the ones in front of the trigger guard? |
Where your fingers wrap in front of the magazine well. |
| i was thinking of getting the XD, G19, and M&P. Id say shoot the XD and see if YOU shoot good with it, i pretty much had my heart content to it but when i shot it, i didnt like the high bore axis and the flip, shot the M&P better than the G19 and liked it better so now i have a M&P. |
I have a Kimber .45 and use my XD45 5" more. My Kimber just sits there, my XD is the workhorse. |
+1 In the last year, my Kimber Custom II had maybe 100 rounds through it, the XD45 has over 1K. |

I have a 4" XD9. Normally when I go out in public I have three 16-round mags on me, one in the gun and two spares. I figure if I can't neutralize a threat with 48 rounds I deserve to be beaten with my empty gun. ![]() My teenage daughter puts more rounds through it than I do when we go to the range. She told me she wants an XD9 for a graduation present (Hey- it's cheaper than a car! |

XD9 Tacticool. 4000+ no problems. If your uncle is a dealer go through him. I am sure he would enjoy that. In the 9mm/.45 debate get what you want. I got the 9mm due to cost of shooting .45acp. If you really want to put rounds down range and have limits to funds get the 9. When you are ready for another pistol (you can never have just one) get a .45acp. Samuel |

i have one, and i liove it... about 3-4000 rounds through it no problems at all... it has gone bang every time i have pulled the trigger... the only thing that i would recommend would be to get the xd .40 and then buy a 9mm barrel... that way you still have the cheaper 9mm for the range and you can step it up a notch if ever need be |
Yeah he has a small gunshop that caters mostly to hunters and local LEO... Yeah the 9mm/.45 debate is a big deal to some people i guess but much like women diversity isnt a bad thing, and as you have pointed out a 9 will give me more range time than my .45 will right now... but i do plan on adding another 1911 in the next year or so... |
Speaking of zombies...... Zombie novels This website has a very good list of online novels that you can read for free in a web browser or download in several formats, as well as many good books... |

I bought a 4" XD9 bitone right after the AWB sunsetted in 2004. I've put a couple thousand rounds through it and have had zero problems. Love that pistol, I shoot it VERY accurately. I like it so much I'm picking up another 4" XD9 in a month. It's the old ban model that comes with 10 round mags and the "crappy" old blued finish (I'll just be sure to keep it oiled). For $359 NIB I couldn't pass it up (on layaway right now)...I paid $480 for my first XD. |

i have 3 9's and one 45 i love them. my carry gun 9 mm has 65,000 rounds through it. i am on my second barrel and i am getting close to my third now. i have no complaints at all love the thing. it still shoots as good as the day i bought it. as a matter of fact i know that it shoots better than i can. but as you can see i am working on that. just remeberd that one of the originail mags is still going strong to event though i dont like it its a tenner instead of a 16 but its still going |
Wow 65000 rounds! talk about some muscle memory.. the XD's just seem to be the best choice for what i want and from everybody's repliesit looks like thats what i will be going with :) |

A friend has an XD .45 Tac. It's a good piece, and he swears by it. For me, I probably wouldn't get one after shooting his. There are several sharp corners placed right where my hands tend to fall when I grip the gun - the worst is the takedown lever, as my left thumb falls right on it. After a few rounds, the lever gouging my thumb really gets old. I just seem to have the wrong sized hands for that pistol. Again, ergonomics aside, I have no problems at all with the XD series. I very much like the way they set up the loaded chamber and firing pin indicators, and there's nothing wrong with its accuracy. As always when thinking about a purchase, if you can find a way to test it out before buying, do so. If the gun feels right in your hands, go for it. |
Wow, what have you all had to replace on that XD after so many rounds? I assume you are changing the recoil spring out every 3-5K? |
