Does anyone use their Xbox 360 with a PC monitor?  A friend lent me his Xbox 360 Elite for a week, but I don't have a TV of any kind, so I'm not sure whether I can use it at all.  It doesn't appear to have any way to plug in to a PC monitor.  That's a shame, because it would probably look great that way.

I have two PC monitors, one an old CRT with analog VGA input, the other a widescreen LCD with both analog VGA and DVI-D inputs.  I have seen "HDMI to DVI" cables in stores, but they are expensive ($40), and I am not sure they would work for what I need to do.

You have to use a converter, you simply cannot just by an adapter for it.

They usually run between $50-$70 if you can find one.

I used one to hook up my PS2, Gamecube, DVD player, etc while I was going to college in WA since I didn't have a TV.

if you have a video card with video in, you can hook it up via the component cables, audio won't work unless you have some sort of seperate speaker system to hook up via component.

after hooking up the yellow video cable to the video in component cable adapter to the video card, you can look up this free app called dscaler, that should work for ya, quality may be iffy.

You could try to get some component/composite -> DVI/VGA cables, but otherwise I think HDMI -> DVI is the way to go. Hell, $40 is cheaper than a decent TV to play it on.

MS sells a 360 cable just for this, $40 plugs into the xbox and splits it into a VGA cable and Left/right audio.

Works great for me

A little Googling reveals that there are HDMI->DVI cables available for less than $7 - but only by mail order, e.g. Newegg.com.  Local stores only stock the overpriced $40+ cables or $30+ adapters.  Figures.

Both PCs have ATI video cards.  They do not seem to accept any type of video input, though they do have (rather useless) ports that can output a signal on an RCA composite video plug.  Guess I'm SOL for now.

Upon further review, I've elected to grab one of those Microsoft HD AV cables from Circuit Sitty later today.  I can plug the VGA part into my CRT monitor, and my PC speaker set has RCA-type inputs.

I don't think my friend who lent me the Xbox 360 knows you can hook it up to a PC monitor, and I'd like to let him try it.
