How exactly do they do this?  Are there a few different ways to do this?  Since I have started working in a machine shop, I havent been able  wear my ring, but I would like to start wearing it when I am not in the machine shop, at home, and such.  Right now, its just too hard to get on and off.  Also, how much does it typically cost to get a ring resized?

ETA:  I created a thread about a week ago or so, titled "Buying DVD's"  Is there an easy way to find it without searching page by page?

They cut a slot in the ring, reshape it to the proper size, add material, and make it match the pattern.  Some jewelry stores will do it for free if you bought the ring there.  Otherwise, call around and ask.

Gold and silver can easily be resized..If you have a titanium ring or other metal like me you have to get a new ring..$100 for a new one but At least I got something on my finger.

My jeweler suggested that platinum bands are a bitch to resize.

Gold, pretty darned easy.

I worked at a Sears store in the jewerly dept. in high school, we outsourced all our jewerely repairs/sizing to a local jeweler

Our charge to the customer was $10 with about a week turn around time

My advice would be go directly to a jeweler and cut out the middle man, although you might get a better price through a larger store, I don't know

It cost me about $70 to get my wedding ring re-sized (gold).  It, like all my uniforms from that period, all shrank around the middle

I sized rings, set stones, ect for a few years. Its pretty simple. To make it smaller you cut whatever size you need out, bend the bottom till its held together under its own pressure. Then you use a small piece of the same kt gold, add a small amount of flux, and heat it till it fills the crack. To upsize you reverse the process. This should cost you $20 or less. If the ring is so thin and old you can break it with your fingers, it needs to be re-shanked, this costs less then $100.
