Best place to get mead is from home brewers. My brother makes an awesome mead with a hint of cinnamon. His friend makes one with French Champaign Yest and 4 types of clover honey, including Irish Heather Honey. It practically tastes like Muscato De Asti. He got the recipe from a guy in the French resistance who passed away 2 years ago. But if you want to settle for the lower quality stuff.... I'm not sure where to order. Sorry. But, I know alot obout Mead. My friend owns one of the largest European beer/spirit importers in the country. He's also the guy I brew with. They import and manufacture many types of mead. Mead is "coming back". As are German/New England style ciders and country wines of all styles. People are tired of spending their lives drinking shit, and are interested in expanding their pallette(sp?). Essentially, you will want to start with a nice Polish mead. They are considered the best by many. The receipts for Polish mead usually call for considerably more Honey by volume and are a bit sweeter, very smooth with lots of aroma and mouthfeel. Of course, they are also more alchoholic. I know nothing about Melomels (Cyser, Pyment, Methyglin, etc.). I have never had any variant other than European and American Meads with no adjuncts. But, some nice reviews are here - Mead Reviews I would love to try some when possible. Good luck! And, remember, this stuff is easy to brew, and tastes good, too! I'm actually sitting on a 30 year old bottle right now that my friends father in law did. |
