That reminds me of a time in High School when I went to the Mall with a buddy to meet his new girlfriend whose name happened to be Gay. She was from another school and I'd never met her.
The Mall was packed so he suggested we split up to look for her. I said sure, I'll just walk around the mall asking every cute blonde I see, "Excuse me, Are you Gay?" edited kase I kaint spail |

My excellent 8th grade science teacher was named Mr. Gay.
That was in 1970 - 1971. At the time the word "gay" had already been long used to refer to homosexuals (Gay Liberation and all that), but that connotation wasn't nearly as entrenched in the language as it is today. People didn't talk about that kind of thing as much back then. I don't remember anyone ever making jokes about Mr. Gay's name. |
