is any given caliber really more deadly than another? we all know shot placment is key and for this reason a .177 pellet or BB can kill you given hot placement within the right range so i ask the question again... is one calibr more deadly than another?

Of course. A 22LR in the thigh is unlikely to kill. You could probably treat it yourself and survive, and certainly you could drive yourself to the local ER and live a normal life for the rest of your days. A 45-70 in the thigh is likely to more or less remove the limb and very likely to sever multiple arteries. Without prompt medical attention, you are probably dead. The .177 pellet might be potentially deadly, but the shot placement would be critical. A .357 is deadly with much less critical shot placement. |
the chances of being killed are higher or lower depending but they can kill you jus the same whether its a .177 from an air rifle or a 30mm out of a gau8. shot placement jus doesnt matter as much the higher up the scle u go. |
Of course caliber matters, but not to the extent some may argue with 9mm vs. .45 or .223 vs. 7.69, etc. Do you have any examples of death by a single .177 pellet? I have never heard of it in homo sapiens. |
Can't give a cite, but I do recall a recent case where two kids were goofing-off with a pellet rifle and one of the kids took a pellet right through the heart. It didn't kill him right away, but I think he bled out relatively quickly. |
