Is it possible to do a background check on yourself on-line and see the same information an FFL would?

Not through the same system. They don't know what comes up anyway, just yes or no. You can purchase background checks online though. State police are usually a source of them.

Just curious, what are you looking for on your record?

Don't know anout Ohio, but in NC you can. Here I would go to the Clerk of Court in my county and check that then contact the SBI and request my own record. It involves a little, but it can be done.

Sounds good. And some eye candy in the meantime.

Excuse me, but if you had a felony on your record, wouldn't you know it?

You can send away for an FBI record. Get prints taken and send them in. Amazing what they have on you.

its not a bad idea, i had no idea that i was a serious hardcore 3 count felon untill i redid the paperwork for my security clearance.

someone in the admin wing of the court had dropped the ball and didnt bother to enter a final judgement correctly, so i had 2 counts of felonius assualt w/a firearm and a count of ccw on my record.

the strange part was that it never tripped a nics check, and it took the fed investigating my local court records for a new clearance tro turn it up.

is that fbi thing for real? or is that a joke?

An FFL only gets a proceed, decline or delay response. They see no info on you.

It's a felony to attempt to purchase a firearm, if you are a felon... Or can you just have a NICS check alone, without issue?

It is entirely possible to have a felony on your record and not know it, especially if you have a common name.

I know of a guy that went down to purchase a gun from a dealer and was denied. He looked into it and it was a TRAFFIC violation. Apparently, for a couple years, drag racing was considered a felony. He got nailed during that period and guess what?

He never knew he was a felon.

Also, some people are just plain old victims of sloppy book keeping.

How many guys have the name John Smith?

You think a .gov employee gives a shit as to if they transcribe accurately? HA!

It's a lot more common than you may think.
