How do I delete the preloaded music this thing comes with?

I figured out how to delete stuff I add but it doesn't list the songs that the thing comes with(which suck!).

On my sansa I have gone in through Windows to the "drive" that it is on, gone the the DICM or whatever, deleted it.

If you don't have a lot of your own songs on there yet, I recommend re-formatting it.

I have a Sansa Clip, so it may work different on yours, but on mine I did it on the player while it was not connected to the computer.  Select the song, then go to the song menu, then Delete Song.

Do you mean going into 'my computer' and opening up the "Sansa View" file?

That is what I tried and it lists all the songs I put on there but it doesn't list the ones it comes with.

Ah, didn't see that there.  Works the same on these too.

edit: what do you mean, reformat?  How and why should I do that?

I have a lot of music on there already but it is still saved in my library on the pc so it would be easy to add it again.

I vaguely remember having to do this on mine in order to get the full alloted space for my music.

I think I may have had to format it...  But I am not entirely sure.  Wait for more replies before you try it.

Are you enabled to view all(hidden) files?

Yea and it still doesn't list them.  Strange...

But you can delete them through the unit itself.

I'm formatting mine right now to see what happens.

How do you do that and what exactly does/should it do?

Or..when you finish, what did it do? lol

Allright, I went into "My Computer".

I Scrolled down to the Sansa and went into it.

Inside, there was a drive named "TCNAND0" with the amount of space listed underneath it.

I right clicked on this thing and selected "Format".  The standard warning about losing everything popped up...  I clicked "Okay".

It erased all information withing the drive.

I just copied and pasted a podcast in there to ensure everything works just fine...  And it does.  This is an earlier 512MB model, BTW...  "Model M230".

*Note:  The content of this post is for informational purposes only.  If you break your Sansa, the poster does not want to replace it*

Edit:

To be on the safe side; if you do choose to attempt this, You'll probably want to copy the entire contents of the Sansa...  Just in case.  Mine had a "Record" folder, and some other thing besides the music.

So it is basically an easier and quicker way to get rid of all the preprogrammed shit in it but it doesn't erase or alter any of the menu layouts?

On mine, yes.

What model do you have?  I would assume they would work the same, if not similar.

After formatting, The record folder that was in there magically reappeared.

I'd like to confirm this with another source or two; but it appears that the format is the way to go:

Page 12 of this .pdf file outlines the proper formatting procedures for your Sansa.  It appears that your view is formatted through the player itself rather than Windows Explorer:

www.sandisk.com/sansa/assets/English/products/View/View_userguide_en.pdf

That should do it.  Good luck!

Ah, thanks for the links.  Tons of info there.

I just formatted mine.

Dumped all my music back into it at once.  Only took 4 minutes to add 300 songs(20.5hrs of play time).

edit: can someone suggest me a good movie editing software?

I'd like to add some scenes from SpinalTap and 300 but I don't want the entire movie on there.

Now it won't charge.  It charged fine the first time but then, after having a full charge today I just turned it on and it was suddenly at low.

When I plug it in to my USB port it connects but doesn't charge.  The USB port does have a high enough charge because both my sister's and friend's Sansa View 8gb players charge on my computer.
