I need something that warns me when someone pulls in the driveway, Anybody got any suggestions on where to buy one? |
Gravel driveway but there is a berm thing at the start of my driveway I could set the beams in. The problem is I work swing shifts 1900-700 or 700-1900 and when I sleep days I'd like something to wake me up before people are already at the door. |

You can train any mutt to bark when a car comes up in the driveway with positive reinforcement of that behavior (doggy treats). Remember, you want a watch dog not a guard dog. I've got a medium sized pound puppy that cowers down to anybody when you approach to pet her. Be it a small child or an adult. Very friendly and sweet dog. But let anybody put one tire in the driveway, even just to turn around and the dog turns into CUJO!!! I shit you not. Hackles raised, slobbering like a mad dog, growling, snarling wild beast. As soon as I give her a treat however. She goes back to being a dumbass. |

I bought some motion detectors at home depot and wired them back to the house to a door bell ring type of thing. It's really simple and can all be bought at home depot. Or you could buy a cheap thing like this. www.amazon.com/dp/B0000645RH?smid=A2BDFZ1WD310BF&tag=dealtime-lawngarden-20&linkCode=asn www.drivewayalarmproducts.com/site/1313933/page/912253 |

x10.com is THE most annoying, high pressure website out there. But I've used their motion sensor/alarm system stuff for 4 years with no problems. If you scroll down to the package for "$29.99", you can get a basic system with one motion sensor, the RF recevier that plugs into any plug in your house, and will turn on any appliance (radio or lamp) then turn it back off a few minutes later. They also sell chimes (sound like doorbells) that can be set to go off along with the lamp. I use these around all 4 sides of my house, and they work great for cars, kids or animals coming into my yard. Each sensor uses 2 AAA batteries, that will easily last a year even if triggered alot. www.x10wirelesshome.com/sensors/x10_eagle_eye_motion_sensor_ms14a.html# |
| I have a driveway alarm. My driveway is about 500 ft. I placed it about halfway up screwed to a big tree. It only goes off when metal passes by it. It has a 1000 ft. range and works excellent. I got tired of people driving up unannounced ringing my doorbell. I picked up mine from here. |

I use "the reporter" around my house. You can have up to four sensors each with a different number of beeps so you can strategicaly place them around your house and driveway. i think they have a range of 1200' or so. They are Heat/motion activated and very rarely false alarm. Outdoor units are green and look very durable. Indoor unit beeps between one and four times depending on which unit is trigered. It also has a trigger out on the base unit so you could hook up a louder bell or light to it. I have a long driveway and like knowing when people turn in and also advance tactical notice of people in the backyard walking up to the rear doors. Picked mine up from northern tool about a year ago. only problem i have had is one battery leaked and melted the battery tray in one of the outdoor units. Have to go to radio shack tomorrow and pick one up and get it fixed. |

Harbor Freight sells those cheap driveway sensors, that run off batteries and use a radio frequency to alert you...the range is about 400 feet. Ebay also sells them. Both are motion sensors A little camo duct tape, and its very low profile. Deer, dogs, foxes etc can set them off. all the best, Gavin |
Second vote for the Harbor Freight "driveway alert system" 2 battery powered units - 1 IR detector/transmitter, 1 receiver. At $14.88 (current sale price) for the set they are a bargain. Batteries seem to last about 6 months, but I have had a set for about 18 months and have no complaints.
