I am thinking about the Garmin C340.  It is for my girlfriend.  We used a C330 and it worked pretty well.  Any thoughts?

How about TomToms?

The c340 is a good unit. Very similar to the 330, but uses chip based memory instead of a micro hard drive. It also has upgraded voice capability.

Another one to consider is the c530, basically the same as the 330 & 340 but is a "sensitive" receiver, meaning that it won't lose signal as easily.

I snagged a Navigon 7100 from Overstock.com for $310 after rebates - the Navigon units include free lifetime traffic, plus this one has the widescreen. Also has the Sirfstar III GPS chipset (which is mandatory no matter whose unit you buy). Garmins are good (have one) but the equivalent model to the Navigon w/o free traffic would have run ~$500 (Nuvi 680)

We have a company Garmin NUVI that we bought when it first came out for a whopping $1000 as we had a business trip that required it. Paid for itself on that very trip and has been a life saver ever since. That was 2 years ago and the unit is still going strong.

We even loaded Europe maps on it and it guided us around England last year.
