Can someone explain to me the resaon behind the flags in the above picture being reversed?

Is it a Military thing?

It's worn on the right shoulder of the uniform to signify that the colors are marching into battle not running from it.

the flag is oriented as though it were advancing.

Reversed flag goes on your right shoulder, so it as seen as "running" into battle

Yep.

If you buy a flag patch or sticker reversed like that be prepared to be asked about it.  I have one on my jeep and I've been asked.."why is it backwards"...and I even had a guy call me an asshole over it until I straightened him out.
