#1 get a spray bottle, one that has the "stream" setting. A really good one works better. #2 91% rubbing alcohol #3 a flame source. A grill lighter works pretty good. No mess no fumes. I can shoot a flame about 3 feet, works great on flying insects , burns their wings right off. |

NOT a very good idea. |
On the contrary. Many arfcommers have been so grievously wounded, all they can do is sit in front of a computer and troll GD. That, and treat their geese to a Flying Dutchman every once in a while. |
I'm certain that it's better not to ask...but WTF is a "Flying Dutchman"? |
It involves a Dutchman, goose, and a dresser drawer |

I once suggested that a possible "cheap" flamethrower could be had by purchasing a power washer but loading it up with gas instead of water. Ignite end and voila, instant super flamethrower good for power scorching your deck or siding*... ...Until Arfcom told me that the gas would eat through the lines in the power washer and eventually (as in, pretty quickly) it would just fall apart... ![]() Arfcom never lets me have any fun! *Super Flamethrower not intended for use on deck or siding, or anything other than a silly bored thought experiment one rainy day... |
Pretty much. |

All this " you're holding a bomb!" stuff is too much. It's hard to get the alcohol burning without good dispersion in the air, it's much less volitile than gasoline. I have used this method for years to shoot down flying insects, without a hint of a problem. Even melted the tip of the sprayer just to see what would happen, nothing. The only problem I have encountered is setting other stuff on fire. |
That's a LOT easier than dicking around with 91% alkeehol. Besides, you get the perfect flame pattern every time! Works great for spiders - although the really big ones need at least a couple of seconds before you burn their legs off. Flies are fun (you can burn their wings off). And web worms, ugh! Perfect for them. Just don't burn the whole tree down in the fall. John |

Oh My GOD I hope anyone reading that horse shit post about making a pvc flame thrower does not try to imitate that fool. Hey even real real US Government issue flame throwers are dangerous to users, friend and foe. I can just imagine the third degree burns that fool is eventually going to enjoy, if he survives. This is one case, that I can honestly side with the the ATF and say this is not a good idea. My two scents. Just nothing good is going to come from that. |
