"amazingly, no one was injured"... because crowds no longer gather to see rocket launches anymore... because it's only cool when they explode...

Glass and rims melted from the heat... pretty awesome. If it was that hot who's to say there weren't people there and they were just vaporized?

My dad, frsh out of the Navy waent to work a the Cape back in the mid 60's.

He told me about sneaking in to watcha launch and was about a mile away from it, rocket blew up on take off and he thought he was dead.

Those parking lots in that video are a good 3 miles away at least.

Public viewing is usually 5 miles away.

That was a hell of a blast.
