-1 for Martin Sheen being a tool
+1 for Nimitz class goodness
+10 for "filmed with the assistance of the Defense Department"

It is indeed a classic military sci-fi movie.

"I'm from the Department of Defense.  Er, I mean the War Department."

Good film!

So just how much damage would a Nimitz class carrier be able to unleash on the Japanese fleet?

The carrier itself...not much after its A-6s ran out of air-to-surface weapons

Great scene!

"Splash 2, repeat splash two."

I'd imagine a WWII Zero pilot would be pretty shaken up by a pair of F-14s.

Yeah, but I bet the F-14s could inflict sufficient damage with their cannon alone to convince that Japanese fleet that attacking Pearl would be a very bad idea.

They could strife the hell out of the bridge and gun crews.

That carrier probably had multiple cans of sunshine on it.  What Japanese fleet?

Yeah I am sure there would been a few tactical nukes used.  Got the two disc edition a few years ago.

I loved that movie and yet, it left me unsatisfied.  Even as a kid seeing it in the theater, I was like "NO!  They can't go back yet!"  I was wanting to see them unleash a can of whoop ass on the Japanese fleet.

Fun flick, I used to watch it all the time on HBO.

Next time you watch it take a look at how close to stalling the Tomcats are when "dogfighting" the Zeros!
