| I live in the Washington DC metro area. This morning's local TV news was all about the death of Redskin Sean Taylor, and nothing else. I know that it is tragic when anyone dies, but the slavish coverage of this young mans death bothers me. The center top section of the front page of The Washington Post covered the shooting and a candlelight vigil for him that was held last night (he died early this morning), but I couldn't find Afghanistan mentioned in the entire front section of the paper. If the DoD dressed our troops in NFL jerseys, would more attention be paid to the KIA/MIA/WIA casualties we are suffering in Iraq and Afghanistan? |
The Debbil made me do it. |
| To try to be equitable, Washington Post does strive to be "the local paper" and the Redskins are the local football team. Don't necessarily hold their front page up to a higher standard. They do not strive to be the national newspaper of record. They cover local issues quite extensively, not just in the metro section but on the front page. |
| This is just a prelude to the anti-gun lobby wrenching up their campaigns. He will soon be a martyr to the cause, etc etc, his death being exploited to further the ongoing efforts to restrict our rights. NEver mind that killing people is already illegal and all that. |
| Agreed. Today in class one of our teachers was talking all about the death of him and everything. I mean yea, it's tragic and everything, but you didn't know him personally, so what's it really matter. I mean I don't mean to sound like an asshole, but people die everyday, and just because he plays football everyone makes it up to be a HUGE deal. |
Damn Britney is people, so we can't eat her when she is dead? |
|
To be fair to the news media that we all hate: soldiers died yesterday, probably today, and most likety tomorrow since it is after all a war. I don't think I can fault the Washington paper for running a story up front when one of their own pro football players is killed. If a giant penis head grows out of the Washington monument overnight I would think they would cover that as well, as it certainly isn't very common or as it is better known: news. |
Page 2 belongs to me!
I dont think I would eat her alive, no less when dead. Have no idea where thats been, or whats been there! |
Response to the original video |
| Paris Hilton was on the news rather than a meeting between several leaders from surroundings countries were meeting... I forgot the name of the meeting but it is a significant event. Media blows... They never report anything good anymore and everything that they do report on they dramatize the hell out of it so it will get more views. |
