Illinois Senate Bill 16, which is another AWB attempt, appears that it would require the owner of the banned weapons to provide proof of ownership to the authorities within 90 days The brings up the bigger question which is how many of us have receipts for all of our firearms, magazines etc that would be used for proof of ownership. Firearms bought in privates sales, given as gifts etc. would not have such paper work. In the absence of a purchase receipt what would someone use in a case like this. Just curious. |

That won't work precisely because of this. They'd have to have so many exceptions for everyone. Most states don't have any kind of paperwork on guns to start with. Even MO, when we had out Permit to Acquire, only had a 1 year statute of limitations, so all one had to do was say 'I bought this a couple years ago'. So, unless they plan on some kind of amnesty for all the bazillions of un-paperworked guns out there, it won't work. Granted, it's Ill, so it will probably pass there. But, aren't all the guns in Ill already 'registered' under thier funky FOID system? Oh, and let's not forget Cali's Register your SKS thing, and then they followed it up with Confiscation... |
