I really don't like that movie. Just the thought of having foreign armies on American soil in a hostile action pisses me off beyond being able to enjoy the film.

Red Dawn is nothing more than an NRA fantasy.

This story line is so stupid and implausible it had me rolling on the floor. It plays on every right-wing paranoid cliche (as when the invading troops march to the sporting goods store to capture a list of local gun owners so they know who to shoot first...sorta makes one question then what good those private arsenals were after all, eh?)

Then there's the silliness of Soviet tanks rolling their way across the Bearing Strait, down through Alaska and Canada, all without any military intervention...and within a span of several days, apparantly.

Note to DittoHeads: Ronald Reagan did not dismantle the Soviet Union, nor did he play any role in their downfall. He simply presided at the time when the Soviet Union naturally and inevitably under the weight of their insane Cold War military spending. And fortunately for us, they did so before Reagan had the opportunity to bankrupt us in a similar manner. Now George Bush is attempting to complete that bankrupting of the nation in Iraq. The enemy of American freedom lies very close to home folks. They're called Republicans.
J/K -- here's the LINK to that very review.  I humbly suggest that anyone who looks at it take a second to hit the NO button on the Was this review helpful? at the bottom.

When I just shot my first deer ever last weekend (a 12 point white-tail buck), my fiance's father asked me, "Did you drink a canteen cup of it's blood?  You gotta do it!  It's the spirit of the deer!"

And *NO* I didn't drink the deer's blood!

How the hell did you get in here...  You must read the code of conduct... I'll post it for you here...

"All Members of ARFCOM are required to love Red Dawn and watch it so many times that you can quote any part of the movie or finish any part of a quote that someone else may start.  Failure to meet this requirement may result in you being called "red"."

It keeps me warm.

We just about wore out a VHS of Red Dawn as my kids were growing up. They'd bring their friends and watch it on weekends. Their soccer team was the Wolverines. Their Boy Scout patrol was the Wolverines.

I'm wondering if that had anything to do with my oldest deciding as a high school freshman to become a Recon Marine?

Then again, he did spray paint Wolverines (just like they did in the movie) on a wall after a raid once in Iraq.

Why don't we have more movies coming out like this now?  The conservative movement is larger now than it was in 1983. If someone made a SHTF/ Invasion/ EFAD movie the theaters would be full for months.

Sorry to interrupt your orgasm of hate, but you fail to consider the alternative.  You blast Reagan, but fail to mention that the other choice, Carter, would have allowed the Soviets to survive to this very day, content to co-exist with their enormous evil, even helping them out.  Reagan decided to risk the costs associated with a technology/military buildup that would bankrupt the Soviets once and for all.  He gambled, they swallowed it hook-line-and-sinker, and we WON.  All without a single nuke popped.

And to address your Bush Derangement Syndrome, again you fail to take into account the alternatives.  Kerry was a poser who had previously done absolutely nothing in the Senate, who offered nothing in terms of fighting terrorism, who was and remains a complete loser.  And I don't see the bankrupting of America you so glibly claim.  Bread lines?  18% inflation?  40% unemployment?  Where, o where?  Yes there are some issues that need to be addressed, before they get out of hand.  But folks like you have been screaming "liberties are disappearing" and "the economy is one week away from absolute disaster" for six and a half years now.   Go pedal your liberal bullshit where someone gives a damn.

As for the movie.  Hey, guess what, its a movie.  Opinions differ.  You're welcome to yours.  Why in the world would you try to justify your position on a movie?

Edit: The stricken part was overly harsh, and I don't know you well enough to tag you with that.

EDIT AGAIN:  I was a stupid dick, and attributed comments to Hardshell that were not his, because I did not read closely enough.

The movie was okay, but too bad it was done sort of "on the cheap."  Remember the scene where the tank pulls into the gas station and the commies start making their moves on one of the chicks?  One of the commies jumps off of the tank and has a ND, and no one bats an eye.  Whats up with that?  Either commies have so many NDs that they don't even notice, or the movie makers didn't have enough $$$ for "take 2".

Actually the movie was not done on the cheap. The uniforms, weapons, and tank mockups are the most accurate I've seen for any 80s movie.

Yup. They built the tanks from scratch. When they were shipping one of the T-72 tanks to the filming location, two FBI agents followed them and demanded to know where they bought a Russian tank and what they were doing with it.

The town they filmed the movie in left all the murals and such that they did for the movie and you can still see most of them today.

Also, I didn't notice the ND in that scene, or any gun at all, really. The only weapon I saw was the gravity knife the one guy pulled after the bomb went off in the tank. Now I gotta watch it again.

Just found out he is going back to Iraq for his third tour with Force Recon. Jeez. He was in the garage going through his gear getting ready to go. I told him that I was going to have some Wolverines morale patches made up for him. He looked up and smiled. Told him to make sure he does some more spray painting this time and to be sure he gets the Wolverines logo right. He laughed.

I haven't watched it recently but when I noticed that scene originally I thought one of the tankers was a firing warning shot at the girl on the bike, "making" her stop. Sort of like shooting across the bow. If that shot wasn't intentional then the blanks would have not been loaded.
