I have a really crappy monitor at work.  The thing is blurry.  Its about 8 years old and give me headaches.  I need a new one but unfortunately at work if it aint broke dont fix it.   Well im about to open fire on this fucking piece of shit, and the suits are too  cheap to replace it.

So the big question is:  How do i destroy it without and incriminating evidence??

Place a good magnet on top of it--conceal the magnet in some type of "cubical" toy---it will case the colors to permantently distort.

Stun gun to the end of the video cable. Oh, and stand back!

Or just turn the brightness all the way down. More often than not that is not checked.

It may be possible to drop staples or paperclips into the vent slots in an attempt to short something out.

They aren't going to do much detective work on an old monitor.

Start submitting claims for eye doctor visits...

You could always drop $250 of your own dollars on a monitor.  Your eyes are worth it, and you always get to take it home when you want!

Quickly:  Have you tried to change the resolution or refresh rates on the thing?  I used to be able to change the settings on my video card from wickedly annoying epiliptic seizure mode to tack sharp easily.

Get a bigass magnet and move it vigorously back and forth one side of the box.  It will magnetize the steel parts and wack out the picture.

Just break a pin or two off the cable.  If it's that old they'll just assume it's dead.

Ask to speak to someone about worker's comp due to headaches and eyestrain.
See how fast someone spends $200 to ease your pain.

Blurry monitors are total bullsh#t and should not be tolerated.

I've heard that distilled water leaves no trace but its kinda hard to do when people are around

Take the fuse out on the inside.

Needlenose pliers and yanking on the pins in the cable (assuming it's a nondetachable cable) would do it too.

That will do it

or cut the back of the cable close to the monitor. They can not repair that unless it has a removable cable.

Or buy one.

I bought 2 lcd 19 inch wides for 110 each.

Just switch it out for your supervisors monitor. Take his chair too.

My brother and some of his friends destroyed an old monitor for a school project.  Anyway, one of them grabbed an aluminum baseball bat, took a running swing at it, and bounced the bat right off the glass and into his shin.  It was hilarious, for the rest of us, at least.

I'm not sure what class it was, but they just did a bunch of stupid stuff on camera, and apparently got a pretty good grade on it.

A cup of water "accidentaly" spilled into the back should do it. Or you could "accidentaly" drop something heavy with a sharp corner on the cord. Or it could fall off the desk.

If you can take it apart, pull on the tube in the back and break the vacuume seal.

I threw a shitty printer off of my second story balcony a few weeks ago. That was pretty sweet. I dont guess you could get away with that though.

I changed some of the settings and it got a little better.  Im gonna do the right thing and just buy myself a new flat screen.  Hell , I already have a 80 g. hard drive, mouse and color printer I brought from home.  Ill just take the monitor home when I get out of here.   Thank guys for the humor and some great ideas.

I've seen one fall off the back of a narrow desk.  It got an extra bounce or two in an attempt to revive it however - due dilligence is requred to make sure an attempt to repair the the asset is completed before scrapping.

The only three reasons I replace them here are.

1. Somebody complains about it hurting there eyes.

2. They straight out die.

3. We get a good deal on a new flat panel when purchasing a new computer. Flat panel usually goes to the manager or most important person first and regular employees get his older but usually larger better monitor passed down to them.

So I would go with #1 if I were you.

Most places would replace it in a second if you complained about a chronic health problem (eye strain, headaches, etc.).  After 12 years in the hospital lab at my last job, they wanted me in admin.  I like clinical work, so I agreed to meet them halfway (20hrs a week at a desk).  My eyesight started to get worse after a few months.  I hated it.  I mentioned it to an admin in the office next to mine and I had a new flatscreen in a week.  Turning up the refresh rate helps a lot too.
