Peter G. Kokalis did a review a LONG time back if I remember correctly. If Professor Kokalis reviews it, I listen. And so do a lot of other people. His reviews are unbiased, scientific in their examination and laced with fact and experience. He's been there and done that. His view: the Ultimax was ultimately unreliable. Magazine/drum issues. Parts failures. Failures due to fouling and corrosion or oxidation. Problems with parts that can be reassembled incorrectly or broken if handled improperly. If a part can be reassembled wrong, it will be. If it can be broken in the field at a time when it is needed the most, it will be. If the Ultimax was so wonderful, it would have competed well with the Minimi (M249) and won. Or come in second. From the report I read 15 or more years ago, the Ultimax didn't score well enough to even receive a second glance. The Ultimax didn't even fare as well as the Cetme Ameli. The M249 is designed and made by FN. It is a hard corps weapon that is incredibly reliable in it's Belgian form. Most of its weaknesses are due to US Army interference with gingerbread items like a top handguard and different shaped grips. Compared to the Minimi, the Ultimax is a turd. Sales bear this out. For my hard-earned tax dollars, I want my son going up against the bad guys with a M249. And he did. With the collapsing stock, short barrel, no bipod, EOTech and 100 round battle back, he sent his share of Muslim scum to meet Allah. My guess is that with the Ultimax's reliability issues, more Ultimax users are sent to meet their gods than M249 users (Al Zarqawi, excluded). |

That liveleak video was probably the most retarded thing I've ever seen. I've always thought the ultimax looks interesting, but the fact that the creator is that fucking stupid makes me hope we stick with the M249. ETA: "A walking man can't use sights very well, so you fire from the hip, full automatic" |
Look at the video, it should be self explainitory. He claims the M16 "hasnt changed an inch" since it first came out. There have been over 40 improvements since the original. He claims the modular system is detrimental to its reliability and effectiveness. He also goes as far as saying we should use his 100 rnd mag and fire from the hip as we charge enemy positions. He's only playing on ignorant peoples lack of knowlage concerning weapons and tactics in order to peddle his goods. |
