Went to a Paradise Lost and Nightwish show last night.

Paradise Lost opened up and kicked ass, I will definetly buy a cd or 5 from them.

Then it was time for Nightwish. There new lead singer Anette was sexy and energetic. Most of the set played was from the new album Dark Passion Play. All of them were great songs, but different from Nightwish's past work. This was were my dissapointment lies, Annete is not Tarja and cannot sing operatic like Tarja. This realy showed while she sang the few songs from the bands past, she did a great job, but without the operatic element part of the song is missing. Especialy durring "Ever Dream" and "Sleeping Sun". The only other songs from the past that were played were "I Wish I Had An Angel","Dark Chest Of Wonders", and "Nemo". These songs suffered less from Tarja's departure, mainly because Marko has many vocal parts in those songs, He kicked total ass on the mike and bass. Overall it was great. The band isn't the same but it still rocks, and I hope they continue to create new albums.

Durring the sound check I spoke to the merchandise guy about shooting in Finland. He said he has not fired a weapon since he was in the army, and that it was difficult to get a liscence to posess firearms. This may be because of the city he lived in. I heard it could vary all over the country. I would be great if the Finn who post here would set me straight.

I would like to have gone to a Nightwish show...  I am thinking that Once is my favorite album of theirs.  I am not exactly liking Dark Passion Play.

I have been listening to Nightwish for about a decade now, ever since Wagner wrote an article about them in Metal Maniacs. I hadn't heard any of Dark Passion Play till last night. It is a good album but I miss Tarja. Now I know how all you old foul dudes felt when Dickinson left Iron Maiden.

Sleeping Sun the original version makes me think she came directly from Heaven.

Yep, Anette's voice is weak and sounds kind of lame. She has a hard time doing their old songs. They still are not a bad band, just not like the old Nightwish.

I wouldnt really say that....

Its thin and wispy.  Tarja's was full-bodied because of her opera.  Definitely a different style though, the band reminds me almost exactly of Evanescence but only heavier sounding.

And I really would like to have heard Tarja sing 'Amaranth'.
