What are the possible explanations for these things? Many many people have seen balls of light that are green, blue, or red and move as if controlled by an intelligent operator. I've seen one. It was NOT ball lighting. It moved in a manner that suggested it was being controlled. My first thought upon seeing it was that it moved like some sort of floating drone designed for observation being controlled remotely. It wasn't reflecting light, it was making its own light from within but not radiating. If you took a glass ball and filled it with the liquid from glow-sticks, that describes what I saw. I was driving at the time, and the orb appeared just above the treeline to my right, about 70 yds. away, moved downwards toward the trees in an arcing motion from vertical to horizontal, then moved out of sight behind the tree tops. My GF at the time saw the exact same thing from the passenger seat. |
I'm not talking about the flash-illuminated dust that idiots see in photos and claim is a spirt. This thing was about twice the diameter of a basketball, had clearly defined edges, and I saw it as it happened... it was not in a photo. -Ball Lightning No... as I said, it wasn't ball lightning. I've seen plenty of pictures of ball lighting... this looked nothing like that and the sky was clear. The object also moved slowly. |
| The DoD is actually developing "flying saucers". They are UAV's that have a down-draft propulsion system so they can hover. The payload would be some sort of observation gear (radio, visual,...). From what I read, the fan is from an automobile cooling system (no, I'm not kidding). This was all in FOXNEWS a few days ago. |
I don't think he is talking about those type of orbs. He is talking about things like the Brown Mountain Lights or Marfa lights, that were written about long before automobiles or cameras. There is one in East Texas that will appear beside your car and match your speed, following on the other side a fence. Who knows what they are. |
| My mother claimed to see one years ago while washing dishes and looking out the window. It was at the outset of a thunderstorm so it was thought to be ball lightning. She dropped a dish in the sink and ducked below the window as if it were coming right at here. Scared the rest of us because we didn't know what happened. |
![]() I'd use that description for most of the crap that passes as paranormal; however, I saw this myself, and my GF at the time also saw the exact same thing. We weren't scared of it, it was just like "what the hell was that?" This was real. I don't know what it was, but it was definitely there. |
There is little doubt that they are real. Their existance has been well documented, even by scientists. What they are is the question. |
Good sir, Here is $10. I would like to buy your plane. |

This post wins at least 3 internets. That's just freaking awesome |
Did you even read the original post? It was NOT a photograph, it was seen by the naked eye, emitting its own light.

That is cool! Got pic? (parked that is) What is its range? Did you build it or was it a kit. |
I am not sure of the range...but this thing gets some range....at least 200 yards out. I've seen him fly it at night on a few occassions. It's a pretty cool, yet very inexpensive setup....and he could bring it down and land it on your nose without hurting you. It's a fun lil' jiggy. |

Cypher, Again, I have to reach back to folk lore. Globes, spheres, orbs and fireball sightings are some of the most common of the "odd" sightings. In some religions it is thought that when the spirit leaves the body, it's shape is that of a sphere, a sphere being one of the "perfect" gemetric shapes. A glowing orb ( and for the life of me I cannot recollect what it is called ) is known to guide people through the realm of the Faerie. It was used as a minor plot device in Raymond Feist's "Faerie Tale", one of the most down to earth fantasy tales ever written. Very well researched. In my childhood a friend of mine and his dad were on the way from Iowa to Minnesota in the early to mid 1970s. It was in the dark of night and they were miles from anywhere. Approaching them from the opposite direction was single light that they first mistook as a motorcycle headlight. As it got closer it looked to them like a ball of fire...at the last moment they realized they were going to collide with it...and collide they did. It blew straight through the car, right through my friend's chest and right out the back. There was zero damage or impact felt. The only thing my friend noticed, beyond having his wits scared out of him, was that it felt "cold". I have subesequently encountered two people on ARFCOM who have witnessed VERY similar events. These events were related seperately and in fact, this is the first time I have publicly published the above story. Small, glowing orbs have often accompanied sightings of everything from Faeries to UFOs and Witches to B17s. The ones that followed bombers and fighters in WWII were called "Foo Fighters". This is where the band derives its' name. What are the orbs? I have NO clue, but they seem to be a very common piece of the "occult" puzzle. They seem to cause no harm beyond scaring folk or intriguing them. |

My friend and I have seen some strange things over the past couple years here in Harvey County, KS. Once, at about 11:00PM on I-135 we were driving to a town called Newton from a town called Hesston, to go eat a diner. We had some other friends driving in a car behind us. About halfway there, we both saw a bright white light about 3 feet off the ground about the size of a baseball fly past us on the passing lane in the opposite direction at apporoximetly the same speed we were going. We both saw it, We also know it wasn't one of the mile marker posts. That happend once more if I recall correctly. On the fourth of July this year, as we launched off a mortar, we saw an object high in the atmosphere traveling due north in a strait line at a steady high rate of speed. It was either a dim orange light or a bunch of smaller orange lights, but at the altitude it was at it was hard to make out details. It was visible for about 10 minutes, during which, I proceeded to ignite various explosives. I was always able to reaquire it after lighting the fuses. I also saw what could have been an arieal flare drop over hesston, but it was falling at a much faster speed than terminal velocity would allow. |
They're not talking about those types of orbs, which are due to bugs or lighting - they are talking about glowing balls that mysteriously appear in certain areas, such as Marfa Texas or Brown Mountain NC. |
LOL...poor Rasputin!!! Lookin' a bit worse for wear!!! Thing still friggin flies, though!!! |
Ummmm.....okay.....it was that Pig from the cover of Pink Floyd's "Animals" LP. Look, that's what they were....little glowing orbs that seemed to tail and observe military aircraft. Many pilots observed that these uninvited aerial guests seemed to be endowed with some sort of intelligence. |

I spent about 4 hours one night watching the Marfa Lights. I had binoculars with me. Some were bright white, some were yellow, some were dark red and hard to see. At one time, there were 4 red lights in a diamond formation zooming along, and then they split into pairs and went different ways. Nobody has yet figured out what they are. The Indians had legends about them before white men came. Crazy stuff... |
