Ok, My current computer is having some issues. The hard drive is making rude noises (clicking. whirling and grunting noises) and has slowed down quite a bit and I think it is on it's last leg. It is/was a budget emachines thingy that has lasted 2 years so far. Sure, I could replace the hard drive but I also want to upgrade to a better monitor (19 or 20 inch) and faster machine so I can play a few games.
I don't care what brand as long as it works and lasts a while. I use it for my daily crap like finances, the occasional game when I get bored, pictures, music (itunes), some downloaded movies and of course the interweb.
I can build a motorcycle out of parts in cardboard boxes, fix my truck and machine up some interesting items but unless I can use a hammer, file and mill to assemble a PC I don't want to build one. I know just enough to mess it up badly.
Is there any advantage to ordering one direct from say dell or HP? Or just drag my sorry ass to worst buy or comp USA?  Budget for everything (puter, monitor, keyboard blah blah) is likely 1000-1300 bucks.

I have been looking at some different sites for reviews which have given me  a headache with the techno babble but wanted to see what people here are using.

Thanks!

If you don't want to build one, Dell is probably a good choice.

look on slickdeals.net or something, they usually have a bunch of sites with complete desktop systems on sale somewhere.

NEVER.

Buy a pre-built one from Newegg.com . You'll thank me ten thousand times over for not going with shitty Dell service.
