My apologies if this has already been discussed but I just heard it on the news that Rick Perry will be announcing his support for Rudy as the presidential candidate.  Doing some Googling it looks like they have some history together.  Wonder if it means anything.

You have unknowingly veered into my "Rick Perry grand conspiracy plan."

As you may arlready know, earlier this year Gov. Perry announced his plan to sell off the Texas State Lottery and take it private. Estimated windfall for the state ranged up to around $14BB, with the proceeds going to fund three separate trust funds. Those trust funds would be the following:

$3 billion for cancer research, $8 billion for public education and $2.7 billion to help Texans obtain health insurance. Nothing wrong with that, right? Once I heard how the money would be split up, something jumped out at me, and it was the health insurance trust fund.

Those funds would be used to provide every Texan health insurance, including those that are here illegally. With border states in the Southwest seeing their hospitals repeatedly being driven to financial ruin due to free health care for illegals, removing that objection to open borders or amnesty would go a along way to pushing such legislation along at both the state and federal levels. If the argument made by so many Americans against the flow of illegals is one of fiscal catastrophe, and that objection is completely removed, it will provide an enormous amount of momentum to those Congresscritters wanting to sell out our country. It essentially becomes a back door amnesty program. So where do I see a Gov. Perry conspiracy?

Rick Perry has pretty well had his run as Governor in Texas, and it may be time to look to national office, like Vice President for example. Rudy Giuliani is in desperate need of someone to help carry conservative southern states, but who? If he were to pick Perry, he would get a pro-life, pro-gun, Republican, but one who will have managed to"out-compassion" President Bush.

By proposing something as innovative as selling off the state's lottery and using the proceeds to fund cancer research (anyone opposed to that?), millions for public education (the teacher's unions, who up to this point have hated Perry would support that), and funding health care for all Texans both illegal and legal (vote for Ricardo!), Perry would emerge as a new superstar for the Republicans. He could be presented as a new kind of Republican who understands some of the biggest domestic challenges and is willing to think outside the box, where poltical strategy and public policy are concerned. What Democrat could fault that proposal?

If he were able to pull it off, it could become a blueprint for a lot more states than Texas, and primarily those those that shoulder the burden of providng free healthcare for illegal aliens. Giuliani would get a running mate that would appeal to voters of both parties, and one that has an awful lot of years ahead of him as a politican. Honestly, this news doesn't surprise a bit.

And before someone else says it, yeah Rudy would get a running mate with hair that John Edwards would covet.

Not to rain on an Aggie parade, but technically, as Vice President he wouldn't be in the White House (although he would be darn close), and at this point, I'd prefer not to trade amnesty in the country for illegal aliens for an Aggie Veep. But that's just me.
