I wanted to know how much of a membership fee goes to actually protecting our rights versus  administrative costs?

I'm thinking about buying everyone memberships this year for Christmas, I just don't want to piss it away on worthless mailings.

IIRC it is around $6-7 goes for the magazine and the rest goes to NRA programs.

Also, if you look on most of the mail you get they have a disclaimer that says no member dues are used for them. Reason to think that they would not do it if it were worthless.  IMO

My suggestion, especially if you are buying the memberships as a gift, is to have all of them put on the do not solicit list so they don't get overwhelmed with mail.

Q: How can I reduce the amount of mail I receive from the NRA?
A: Simply email us at [email protected] or dial 800-NRA-3888 and request to be placed on the "Do Not Promote" list. This will significantly reduce the amount of mail you receive without affecting important mailings, magazine service, or your membership renewal.

Similairly, I tried to find out how much/ what percentage of purchases made on the NRA credit card go to actually helping the ILA/PVF and no one could give me an answer.  Anyone know the answer here?

I've thought about buying all the members of my family NRA memberships for the holidays, but I was shot down by my wife.  She thought some of my family would be offended.

Well if they're your family...screw them if they get offended. And you can tell them that because they're family.

Now if they're her then you can't tell them off because they're not your family.
