I have high speed internet through my cable company. I use a Motorola modem with a built in wireless router.  I have two desktop computers in the house, and one laptop, all of which use wireless cards to access the internet.

I do use encryption to protect my wireless signal.  If I look at "View Wireless Networks" I will see my wireless network and I will also see a weak signal for a neighbors network listed too (no I don't steal it).

Here's the problem.  Periodically the signal disappears.   Not just on one computer, but on all three.  And not just my signal,  the neighbors that I usually detect is gone too.  All three computers say there are no wireless networks in range.

This is the second wireless router I've used, and with both  I sometimes have this problem.  I don't really think its the router though, because the second signal from the neighbors router is gone too.

It can't be a computer, because it is the same on all three of my computers.

It's not the signal from the cable company, because when that is down it doesn't take down my network.

It doesn't seem to correspond to wireless telephones, or wireless speakers or anything else that generates a radio signal in the house.

Any ideas?

Have you tried changing channels from the default?  Most WAP's are set to channel 6 by default.  Try a different channel, you may be getting interference from the other AP.  You can adjust your client wireless nic's as well.

I was having the same problem when I was setting mine up. I had around 5 other wireless networks nearby all working on the same channel.  I ended up switching to another channel and haven't had any problems since.  Hope this helps.

As previously stated...

I would try different channels until your issue (s)  clear, you may have to try them all.

Also your 2.4 Ghz phone will cause issues, if the base is near by move it to another locations.
