I tend to do that when the bolt is open and there is a mag in the well (I like to be sure that the chamber is empty, I would rather not have an NG).

Is this faux pas?

I bought it a long time ago to take camping, its lighter than the ones with tall sides, fits in my ruck sack better, and works just fine (what do you think I cooked the steak on?..its raining outside

)

Very nice! I give it a 10! I got one of those iron skillets when my local HEB had a special. Buy 2 lbs of pre-seasoned chicken fajitas and you get the skillet for free! Or was it the other way around?

I can't remember. But either way,they really come in handy for a quick steak,huh?
