got a USMC Recon question if anyone here has had that kinda experience. Whats the deal with tattoos? any rules or regs on it? im talkin ones like on the chest, that CAN be cover by a tshirt. |
The only time this ever came up during my time was during "Escape and Evasion" classes when you had to come up with an alter MOS as an unimportant person during intergation. Something like boring like a refueler for Lima Co Bulk Fuel. We had a Gunny who had most of the schools he had attended tatooed on his body so it was hard for him to pretend to be anything else. Because of this our Capt at the time suggested we think twice before getting tatoos of recon specfic subjects while we were on active duty. "Meat Tags" simple name, SSN and Blood type under the armpit were encouraged however. |
I dont think a tat is going to be a huge deal as far as your military career goes, i mean everyone will probably think its stupid even though you thought it was cool. And if you ever get to the level where "your not suppose to be in the military and are a "diplomat" but you still actually are in the military" a military tat might not be the best idea |
They also wore shoes, I guess we better stop that, too. ![]() But back on topic, I know a former Marine who has Recon on one calf and Marine on the other, real big. |
Are you fucking serious? Did you really just compare the Fucking SS to the United States Marine Corps? I would ninja edit that shit before you get your flying fuel ass flamed |
![]() |
No.... I was just stating a historical fact. Well....trolling too since it is like shooting fish in a barrel here on arfcom. So, flame away greasy wrench jockey. |
You need to stop watching Chuck Norris movies. It doesn't work like that in the real world. The fact that they caught an American is all that matters. |
what he said... |
OK
|
Uhh... let's see.... Zoomie... Nope. USMC 1982 to 1990. First enlistment I was a 6113 - CH-53 A/D Mechanic & Crew Chief. This was before Crew Chiefs had thier own MOS code. And my second enlistment I was a 6032, KC-130 Flight Engineer. My original assertation stands. The SS tattooed thier blood type under thier left arms. |
Dude, you are in a fantasy world. If they take out my team or the recon team next door, you think the bad guys are gonna care that I'm with bulk fuel? You think I'd even be able to communicate that? They are gonna treat me the same no matter what I scream. If everyone in my team wants to get "Fuck Iraq" tatooed on their chest then so be it. It's not going to matter if it gets that bad. |
So? I carry a wallet with ID in it. I bet they did that too. |
Recon Marines, SEALs, and other SOF types are much more valuable prisoners than rank and file soldiers. They carry information with them that would be invaluable to the enemy. The harder it is to determine who they are, the better. |
+1 Exactly. Well said. Looks like someone flunked Junior ROTC |
My mistake. I was unaware the the USMC had it's own refuling aircraft. Learn something new every day. I saw the KC-130 and was thinking KC-135. Yer still on your own. |
Well hell at least you admit to being a troll good on you then. As for the greasy wrench jocky comment do a little more research and you will discover that 6177 is actually a secondary MOS that denotes the Marine is qualified as a Weapons and Tactics instructor, ie qualified to train helicopter crew dogs in the areas of Aerial Gunnery, Night Systems operations(goggle flying), Low Level terrain flight, and Defensive Maneuvering tactics. All that while still being a pretty good wrench jockey to boot. Kinda makes flying around in circles getting jabbed in the ass every time some one needs gas kinda lame huh? ![]() Now STFU and stick your head in the drawer goose I need gas. ETA You were in the USMC and you compared it to the SS? And you were a 53-D guy? You make me embarrassed to have been D guy. |
Thank you Sir. |
Been there, done that. It was always fun to watch the rotorhead guys strut into Flight Engineer training thinking they were the shit. I would try to tell them that I was recently in thier flight boots and the best thing would be for them to STFU and learn. Sadly most didn't listen and soon found thier way out of training and back to thier original MOS's. Well...shit...gotta get back to trolling. Slow night at work... |
Good to see you think the Marine Corps is a great subject for trolling. |
+1-remember the scene in the film version of "Bravo Two Zero" where the helicopter crew is discussing evac plans with the SAS team? "If we get shot down, we're going in the opposite direction. For the Iraqis, we're just an aircrew-you guys are more like Jason from Friday the 13th" |
![]() eta: in before lock |
Actually, I took his "just sayin..." comment to specifically mean he was NOT comparing the SS to the USMC, he was just throwing out an interesting historical fact. |
That's pretty much what I had in mind when I posted that. However, since a few members decided to cry like butt hurt school girls I thought I would go ahead and roll with the troll so to speak. I enjoy a good troll. It's a guilty pleasure of mine. Maybe I shouldn't, but I do like to stir the pot a bit. Some of you all really need to grow a thicker skin. Jeez people. It's the internet for christsakes. My kids are tougher emotionally than some of you guys. I have been giving the "Meat Tag" tattoo some thought. Why would you want something on your body in the same style as the SS? If my just pointing out a historical parralell gets some of you so worked up, what are some of public's perceptions going to be? I have tats. I like tats. But I would never get a meat tag type tat. I would not in any way want to be compared to the SS since there are people out there who will do just that, and mean to do it. |

This is why I love ARFCOM... Some dude who has USMC in his handle is asking USMC questions of the GD..then a Marine points out of fact, then another Marine gets his panties in a bundle over it. Yes, USMC Recon Marines are uber secret. They have to turn in their dog tags, their ID cards and they are expendable if caught. They can not tell their mother where they are going...if they have a tattoo that 'may' link them back to the Marine Corps, they are kicked out of RIP. |
KC-130 FLT ENG, you think I should take offense to that? ![]() |
After Daniel Pearl & Somalia, personally *I* would NEVER be taken hostage. I would either be shot after running out of ammo or be stabbed with my teeth buried in some ROPer's jugular...................... YMMV. |
Some had 'em. No one out of Regs IIRC... was quite a bit ago tho... |
|
thanks yall for the "real" feedback, i was just wonderin about it. i realize recon and SF type groups are not super ninjas or what ever jive shit yall call em. i was just curious if they had any special rules n regs because of the more "indepth" stuff they do. so thanks for yall who actually made an attempt to add to this post. |
Would you learn how to use the fucking quote function? I know it's hard to figure out but having to go back and figure out who you're talking to is a real fucking pain in the ass. This sums you up pretty fucking well. flamewarriors.com/warriorshtm/blowhard.htm

Nah, just made you a symbol of American military power, and killing you was a way to strike at that. Remember the two Navy guys who got killed during the hijacking of a plane back in the 80s? |
I think that was tongue in cheek leather neck. |
