As long as you don't dwell on Cruise's psychosis in the real world, it's a good flick. Great swordfight scenes, and even original gatling guns.

If I never watch that movie again I would be cool with it.

I was stationed at an alert facility and we got that movie thru the Navy on 8mm tape. Every fucking time some pilot switched out missions all you hear over the intercom "Now playing in the Anny theatre Samurai" For a fucking month that was the only movie anyone played. /stab

The story is utter bullshit. The Samurai in question existed, but to show his power and to reverence to tradition he went to a village, lined up all the men, and decapitated them. Good old Hollywood didn't want to show that.

Here are my observations:

- No wonder Tom Cruise played a despondent drunk. I would too if I let Nicole Kidman get away.

- Ken Watanabe made the movie. Anybody could have played Tom Cruise's role.

- Overall a good movie, in spite of Tom "I'm-so-cute" Cruise.

Tom is a tool, and seems to do his best to ruin movies and Hot womenz (though thankfully the latter for the most part escape before he really buggers them up)

I own the movie though, enjoy it, it is not historically accurate (and eys I was one of those bitching the same thing about 300

)

For a much better movie about the same period in history, watch "Twilight Samurai", which oddly starred one of the main actors from Cruise's "Dances With Samurai".

I liked it.

cruise is a dipshot but Ken Watanbe stole that movie anyway. Cruise was the supporting actor in that one.

If given a choice between The Twilight Samurai and The Hidden Blade, pick Twilight Samurai. It's the same movie, only better.

Tom Cruise s undoubtedly a fruitcake, but I like most of his movies and I think he is usually a really good actor.

I can seperate my personal opinions about how artists are in real life from my appreciation of their work. You have to if you have any genuine appreciation for a wide variety of music or any other kinds of artistic expressions...because...let's face it...a lot of artists are at least a little bit batshit crazy.

You would think a Hollywood so enamored with Communism wouldn't also be so enamored with the Samurai.

Chuck Norris would have been great in that part...

But he would have kicked Mr Samurai's butt.

Really, I liked the movie. But Cruise had no part in making it worth seeing.

That's a good summary right there.

I didn't like the movie. It seemed too much like Dances with Wolves in Japan.

Plus, killing them all off in the end was lame. Two thumbs down.

It was a very pretty film. The costuming was FANTASTIC. I guess I dont buy the whole 'white guy as a Samauri' bit - but it was based on a real story (right?)

I dont think it is REQUIRED. But its ok.

I like the scene when Tom Cruise was selling Winchester rifles in San Francisco, I remember seeing an old cable / trolley car going up the hill in the back ground?

back in 1876 I think they were still using horses to pull trolley cars?
