So I have been offered a job in a union machine shop. So I'm guessing I have to join the union to take it. Some one told me that once you join you can only work in union shop. I guess basically once a union member always a union member. Is this true?

Well, I was a member of the IAM from a previous airline job.

If you leave your job for another, that is not covered by the same union or no union, you can submit paper work so that if you ever get employed at a place covered by your old union, you can skip the initial entry dues.

But I’ve never been told I’m limited to “union only” jobs.
