At what temperature does pvc pipe start to melt or lose integrity? Would it withstand underhood temperatures in cars?

Something just over 212F.

I used schedule 40 pieces to make an under gravel water circulation for a fish tank, to make the nozzles, I simply put 1" sections into boiling water and fished them out with pliers, squeezed, and they deformed nicely.

What you are looking for will be best found at a metal supply house, local machineshop or fabricator.

If you are wanting to build a short ram intake, why dont u just use the factory hose and buy or make an adaptor to fit the end? If you want bling then buy one already made for your vehicle.

An adaptor and a few clamps should be sufficient. You can fabricate a hanger so that it will stay put.

Just use exhaust tubing.

I used stainless 4" on my old truck and it worked great.  Worked good on my buddys too.

You may want to get some light sheet material of some sort and make a heat shield.

Yep, i know i was gonna make the sheild, now i just have to find the tube, and the only place i can think of with 4 inch is the local big rig shop.

What are you putting it on?  I used 4" on a 7.3L turbo diesel, you can get smaller diameters at pepboys or salvo or something

4" diameter? ? ?  What about dryer ducting---the aluminum stuff.  Or, heating and ventilation stuff?

It is pretty damn easy to build a cold air intake, not that they do a whole lot.

PVC just isn't the way.

Yep, i need metal tube.

Redcamp is right, i should pay 230.00 for this:

Because thats super complex and i couldnt make my own.

Go to an exhaust shop.  A small chunk of pipe the appropriate size or real close whould be cheap.  They will probably bend it for you to the right shape for $5-$10.

I just wouldn't use PVC.

it would be kind of a waste to do it cheap and lazy and sucking in hot engine compartment air instead of piping in cool air and no PVC

Know where Dioxin comes from?
I'm guessing not.

Pony up the funds and get a true cold-air intake.

What in the fuck are you talking about?  The airshield around the cone filter would take about 15 minutes to cut and bend to the correct shape and size.  So...explain how it would still be sucking in hot air?

Im sorry i dont have CAD and CNC cutters and benders like companies who make them, but im pretty sure i could produce something just as good, and not even use PVC. The PVC was gonna be used for that straight portion anyway, but it wont work, ill use aluminum. So whats the problem here. You're saying i should spend over 200 bucks for something that will cost me under 50 bucks (includeing filter) and some time?
