[ARCHIVED THREAD] - How many kids (Page 1 of 2)
i saw that family on tv a year or so ago, rediculous |
|
I'm third of seven kids. It was hell growing up, but now I love having big family get-togethers and holidays. And hey, if they can afford it (they're not on welfare/gov assistance), and they're raising their kids to work hard, obey the law, be good and productive people.... why should any of us have a problem with it? Three is plenty for E22 and I though.

unless the family is very rich, the government and the university will pay for it using other peoples' tax and tuition money. |
There is more to quality of life than material possessions. Kids care more about their parents caring about them and not their new BMW. I have never met anyone from a big family who hated it. I have met plently of only children who hated it. In fact, I have NEVER met an only child who wanted to only have one kid. |
![]() Um OK..... Did you attend private school? Just asking |
no, i attend a public school |
My parents are not what I'd call rich yet I still have to front well over 15K a year just to go to a private college. |
I'm not basing my facts on an only child, my parents have 3 kids. very acceptable, but come on 16 is overkill. Do you know what they'd do to her if she was in china and had those many kids? |
Definately not, I'd rather pay for it myself. Not a bias against a large family, well maybe against having 16 kids. My neighbors back in the day had 12 kids. We're talking 2-3 kids sleeping in a singel beds in some of the bedrooms in a 4 bdrm house. |
Thanks you cleared up your point very well.. You are a little spoiled kid who thinks that the government should kill those children that are too many.. You are known by the company you keep ... murdering commies are fine company |
|
Mom had 11 brothers and sisters. They were only all in the same house at one time for a very short period, as they were spread out far enough that one left to join the air force shortly after one was born. A few died, one missing. There is only 6 left I think, and one of which isn't really part of the family anymore. Mom has some interesting stories about what her parents did to stretch a dollar. |
There you go then other peoples tax money pays your way |
my point is, unless they are quite wealthy (in which case, good for them, let them have as many kids as they can afford to feed, clothe, and educate), other people are going to end up paying for their children's education. by having so many children, not only do they put a greater strain on publicly funded services, but they pay less in taxes as well. Unelss of course they're already wealthy and not planning on taking advantage of taxpayer funded services, in which case they have my greatest respect. |
i attend a public school in a state where i am not a resident, and thus my tuition is 4 times higher than it would be otherwise. The government does not subsidize my college education. |
Only child, wanted no kids. I wound up with one, and while I love him like nothing else in this world, there will be no more. -Mark |
yea, a spoiled little kid. that's funny. Everything I have I've earned. Parents have never bought me anything. I'm given a $425 a month from my parents and with this i have to pay tuition, rent, and everything else associated with going to college full time and living on your own. Spoiled is just about opposite of what I'd call it. Did I say the .gov should kill her kids no, be realistic. |
the duggers pay cash for everything.. they do not belive in credit of any sort... The duggers do not write the tax code and are home educated.. I would venture to say that they use very little public funds at all.. I bet less than you do |
How do you figure? Any of it. |
well then, as I said in that case they have my greatest respect, more people should strive to be like them. |
from seeing an episode of their show on TLC i definately wouldn't call them anything near wealthy. |
|
3. One from a youthful indiscretion, and two with my (ex)wife. They're all great kids and the younger ones consider the eldest as just a brother with no "half-" in front of it. As one post pointed out, having them spaced closely is makes college challenging. Mine are about 4-5 years apart, and even that is rough, but we're getting by. The oldest is a senior in a private university, and the next one starts in '09, and one after that in '13. As unlucky as I got with women, God made it up to me with my kids. They are the best anyone could ever hope for. |
Okay I'll admit it. MORE PEOPLE SHOULD BE LIKE THEM financially. |
This is what you start telling yourself when the wife/GF comes to you one day and says, "Honey, I have a surprise for you..." Thanks, but I'll take the material possessions, money, and freedom. You keep the kids. Mkay? |
|
My folks had four, the last two adopted, and it was a significant hardship for everyone. Of course none of us can say we regret it, my adopted sisters are wonderful people, but there's no way I'm having that many kids. People don't realize how much difference time, money and other resources impact kids lives until they're older, it's easy to say 8 kids isn't much harder than 4 when they're all still in elementary school. That family will almost certainly have problems when the kids get older, or they'll be a drain on the community, no other way around it. Kids require a lot of time and resources to raise right. |
No you said what would happen to her in China.. which I answered |
Perfect example of why we will go the way of Rome above. |
Well, I'm an only child, and I want 0 children. |
That's a pretty superficial comment. What do you consider quality of life? Stuff? Dad and mom both working their butts off, being a latch key kid, just so you can be a 9 year old permanently attached to your iPod, PSP, and cell phone? Wearing your Tommy jeans and Fossil watch? Haivng a brand new car just handed over to you for your 16th birthday? As far as college goes, maybe they'll do what most people do- go to the college they can afford, earn scholarships, maybe some student loans, and work while going to school. Not everyone lives feeds off of mommy and daddy's teets after high school. ![]() Struggle sucks while you're going through it, but it sure does build character, give perspective, and make one realize the important things in life. |
Well said Bed_head someone who gets it ! |
Fine. But it would be wise to learn some key Spanish phrases, such as "Favor de cambiar mi panale" and "Yo debo ir al bano" for when you're stuck in a nursing home or assisted living because no one is around to care for you. |
|
That's at least $425 more than I ever got from my parents while I was in college. My Uncle Sam did help me out though. |
|
I have five children, I hope not too many here condemn me for it. We have never received any .gov aid, plan not too, and since we pay taxes and home school we figure the .gov owes us a fair bit. ETA: Not that we'll ever collect, of course. College may be tough, but it'll work out. Larry |
That's not true, really. Large families do not take much more to raise right than smaller ones; if the parents work at it. To just know that they will be a drain on society is a pretty arrogant statement with no basis in reality. I know many large families (none that big) that never need any aid, more small ones that do. It's all about priorities. Not having a Wii is not harmful to the children, having committed parents is what matters. |
