Hey ARFCOM, I just wanted to get some insight on what you guys think about the Border Patrol.

I'll be taking my exam on the 24th, Monday, and have been studying my ass off.

A thankless job. Good luck to you.

Hope you don't encounter and deadly force situations as you will probably get hung out to dry.

I applied and was accepted, but ended up turning down the job. Everyone I talked to on the inside said they were trying to get into another federal agency when they joined and got stuck. Good luck

You can use the BP as a door into the federal law enforcement community. Many entered through the door with hopes and promises of transfers to other agenciesor the Canadian border. But many found themselves "stuck" in the BP on the Southern Border. When I applied I was told I could put in for a transfer to the northern border after 2 years, but everyone I spoke to said that while you can put in for the north after 2 it would take 10 years to  build up the seniority to get there. But this was all pre 9/11 it could be different now.

"Not nearly as much fun as it used to be."

#1 reason given to me by those who advised me not to join. I heeded their advice, and hear more and more to reflect that all the time.
