Iran warns Western nations against confrontation

Sep 17 08:11 AM US/Eastern

Iran on Monday warned Western states against picking a confrontation in the dispute over its nuclear programme.

Iranian Vice President Reza Aghazadeh, who is also head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation (AEOI), told a meeting of the UN nuclear watchdog that Western countries "have always chosen the path of confrontation instead of the path of understanding and cordial relations toward the great nation of Iran."

His comments came one day after French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner warned that a war with Iran was possible over its nuclear programme.

"In practice, you have proved that you can not tolerate the addition of independent states and developing countries to the ongoing movmement of those seeking to achieve owndership of modern technology," Aghazadeh said.

"The great nation of Iran has recorded your discriminatory behavior and performance in its memory and will not forget," Aghazadeh said.

Western nations suspect Iran is trying to develop a nuclear bomb. Iran says its programme is peaceful.

Wow....they sound very concerned to me.

Couple that with the fact that they're now threatening Israel with 600 missiles in just a 1st attack, and our troop with missiles in Iraq, and you get the impression that they're desperatel in staving off an attack:

600 Iranian missiles said to be pointed at targets in Israel

By JPOST.COM STAFF

Six hundred Iranian Shihab-3 missiles are pointed at targets throughout Israel, and will be launched if either Iran or Syria are attacked, an Iranian website affiliated with the regime reported on Monday.

"Iran will shoot at Israel 600 missiles if it is attacked," the Iranian news website, Assar Iran, reported. "600 missiles will only be the first reaction."

According to the report, dozens of locations throughout Iraq, which are being used by the US Army, have also been targeted.

The Shihab missile has a range of 1,300 km, and can reach anywhere in Israel.

On Sunday, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said that the nuclear Iranian crisis forces the world "to prepare for the worst," and said that in this case it "is war."

Kouchner emphasized, however, that negotiations should still be the preferred course of action.

Kouchner, quoted by French daily Le Figaro, added that "Iran does whatever it pleases in Iraq ... one cannot find in the entire world a crisis greater than this one."

In response to Kouchner's comments, Iran's state-owned news agency accused France of pandering to the interests of the United States.

"The new occupants of the Elysee (Presidential palace) want to copy the White House," the IRNA news agency said in an editorial. The editorial added that French President Nicolas Sarkozy was taking on "an American skin."

Kouchner's statements came just hours after US Defense Secretary Robert Gates reiterated the Bush administration's commitment, at least for the time being, to using diplomatic and economic means to counter the potential nuclear threat from Iran.

If Iran was serious about preventing war, they'd allow the UN inspectors FULL access to their entire program, no restrictions...

But they don't seem too interested in preventing it.

Of course they would....but it's painfully obvious to anyone with even half a brain that they want nuclear weapons and they apparently are willing to risk attacks for them.

Right...

The fact that they're not building any reactors to USE that nuclear fuel in, is very telling...

Iran warns US: We have you in our sights

Mon. 17 Sep 2007

TEHRAN (AFP) — Iran's military has the capacity to strike American interests in the Middle East to a range of 2,000 kilometres (1,250 miles), a top general in the elite Revolutionary Guards warned on Monday.

"Today the Americans are around our country but this does not mean that they are encircling us. They are encircled themselves and are within our range," General Mohammad Hassan Koussechi told the official IRNA news agency.

"If the United States is saying that they have identified 2,000 targets in Iran, then what is certain is that it is the Americans who are all around Iran and are equally our targets.

"Today... we have reached capacities that allow us to hit the enemy at a range of 2,000 kilometres," added Koussechi, who is co-commander of the elite force in the west of Iran.

His comments came after French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said the world should brace for possible war amid growing tensions over Iran's controversial nuclear programme.

The new head of the Revolutionary Guards, Mohammad Ali Jaafari, warned the United States last week that Tehran has identified its "weak points" in neighbouring Iraq and Afghanistan.

Iran has always insisted it would never initiate any attack but has warned of the magnitude of its response to any aggression against its territory.

Tehran has an array of medium-range missiles and claims that its longer-range Shahab-3 missile has a reach of 2,000 kilometres which would put Israel and US bases on the Arabian Peninsula within reach.

Somebody needs to point out to them that Syria already was attacked last week by Israel F15's. So what are they gonna do about it? Balls in their court.

Iran and Syria signed a mutual defense pact.

Multiple sources say the US worked with Israel to coordinate the strikes on Syrian nuclear stocks.

The world may not realize it, none of the players might be admitting it, but the destruction of our enemy's nuclear facilities has already begun.

This kind of shot across the bow, whether answered or not, is only the first. It will continue, one at a time or many at once, until one side says uncle.

I see similarities to a bar fight here. A noisy drunk drew a line in the sand, and warned a quiet guy with...those kinda eyes...not to cross it.

The line was crossed.

The noisy drunk, fully aware that the line was crossed, is repeating his threats if the line is crossed. He hasn't adjusted to the new reality yet.

That doesn't mean he's too afraid to fight.

It'll be interesting to see what Saudi Arabia does if this goes down.  They hate Iran and Iran is the biggest threat to their security.

I can't see them joining us and Israel to fight another Muslim country, though.
