Hello all, In another thread the idea of having a "members only" forum was brought up again. (by me)[:D] It had been discussed back when the boards were re-done and nothing ever came of it. Goatboy suggested that we discuss this and offer our opinions about it. My personal thoughts are that we should have one. A place to go when things get a little, ummmm, goofy ??
Hell, I remember when I was little how cool it was when I finally became a member of the local kids club held in a treehouse in a friends backyard !! and like the old saying goes..."membership has its priveleges"
so lets see what your thoughts are....
[:D]

BTW, GB, it might also be a way to up the memberships !!! all those who are not members will be going nuts wondering what is going on in the members forums !!! Members should also get their own key to the executive washroom too, right ???[;)]

I like the idea, actually suggested this myself not too long ago on Goatboy's "suggestion" thread.

By the way, you know what secret stuff will be going on "behind the curtain" that drives the non-members crazy?  All us members wondering how crazy all the non-members are going...[:D]

Not a good idea.  Eventually important conversations will be held behind closed doors.

Things get goofy?  So just go hide in your protected forum and leave AR15.com GD to fall to the wolves?  Not very nice. [;)]

I like the idea.  Then we can make fun of the non-members and have our little "inside" jokes about them.  That'll drive 'em nuts.  [:D]

Either that or just snicker when certain people post.

Hey, I just want in on a LEGP give-away.

I absolutley support 100% fully segragating members and non-members.

No members in the non-members section- and no non-members in the members section...

It would stagnate [:D]

Please do this.

All members are created equal.  Some members are just more equal than others.  [;)]

I have a "MEMBERS ONLY" windbreaker, does that count for anything???

Sure, why not? If it starts to break things up it could always be disbanded. Try it see how it works, if it does more power. If it doesn't, then at least it was tried.

[said in a Thurten Howell III voice] Yes, yes, a members forum please, I am not accustomed to mingling with rif rafs such as this. We need a members only forum with semi naked womenz(and menz for the ladies) giving us massages and feeding our every whim. Yes, yes, do build one.

Yes and the Taliban wanted to seperate from the Northern Alliance because they wanted to get rid of the rif-raf.

Good Idea or Bad?

You guys cannot take Babe Of The Day with you.

That would be worth the price of admission.
Make it so.

Why not just make the forum entirely members-only?  You wanna read or post (costing bandwidth), you pay.  Industry forums could remain open to the public for reading, but not for posting -- or could remain open to the public for everything, assuming the manufacturers want to subsidize the cost.

I used to frequent a forum which had multiple levels of membership (free, $50/yr, $600/yr).  It got to be ridiculous, with "members" lording it over the cheapskates, refusing to socialize with the untermenschen, refusing to answer questions on the free boards, and so on.

This idea would certainly reduce traffic and save a hell of a lot of BW!

I know that my opinon doesn't count, but, now that "YOU" are all here. I think its a good idea! I'm a little new to my AR15 but have no problem with it, I know it though and though. I come here for info and chat, mostly to learn more. But if you can't ask a question with out being critisized, then why ask? If "you" had your own sight, maybe we commoners could learn more about our rifles? I was'nt born with that knowlage. Thats my two cents, Sincerly

Said it elsewhere and will say it again here. A members only forum would be an incredibly bad idea that will probably wind up killing this site.

No, I said the same thing that I said just now: if we wind up with a member's only GD and a peons' GD it will kill the site.  I said then that I was worried that a Members Only forum would result from the creation of the Member title, and now it seems my worries are being realized.

If these guys want a member only forum for WHATEVER they want to post, then so be it... I highly DOUBT it will take away from the GD.

I am very nearly 100% certain that it will cut the heart right out of GD.

RikWriter, I'm only one member, I didn't send in for my membership for any other reason than I felt that I owed it for my use.  I honestly don't feel that any 'members only' forum is going to gut the GD forum.  I can only name MAYBE one handful of 'paying members' (non-moderators) compared to all the other guys I know and recognize here.  The 'paying membership' accounts for what, less than 2% of total members?  My bet is the action stays here, I am anyways.
