Towards the end of 'band of brothers' they get an influx of rookies who are headed to battle. One of them starts to fix his bayonet when one of the vets tells him not to... because?? I missed the reason why.

If you were out doors why wouldnt one fix a bayonet - on the off chance a German met you face to face?

Said because it'd make the rifle less accurate.

I wouldn't affix the bayo because I just don't need the extra weight out there on the end of the gun.

Adds 10" to an allready overlong weapon, throughs off the balance with extra weight up front, and as silly as this sounds could cause some extra ill feeling  towards you from the bad guys if you get captured (SOB want's us to die slowly, we'll show him ).

This seems more correct than what I posted. Been a while since I've seen that.

From personal experience, hanging a wobbly piece of metal from your barrel will affect POI.
The only rifle I have shot with a bayonet that had a negligible change in POI was a No4MkI* Enfield.
