My GF resigned from her job last week because of the poor way her bosses were treating her. By pure coincidence the day after she resigned the State showed up to audit them because of complaints. They think that she called the State but she didn't.

She arranged to return her key and pick up her last paycheck today. She heard through the grapevine that they were going to give her a really hard time and demand to know where she works now. She asked me to go along with her because she was worried about how they were going to treat her.

We walked into the office and her boss asks her to come into her office. I followed right behind and stood in the doorway. The vice president walks up behind me and asks me to leave and I ignored him. He then says excuse me and I let him pass. They ask me to leave again and I said "that's ok, I don't think so".  I said we aren't going to turn this into a whole production. She's here to get her check and to give you the key.

He then tries to close the door on me and I just put my foot out to stop it.   He starts to push harder and then sees I'm holding it with my foot and stops. He then squares up to me and says "you're not intimidating anyone" . As he said this his voice and lip are quivering. I looked him right in the eye and said in a very measured tone "I don't give a shit" "Apparently you are intimidated if you want me out of here so bad." He kind of shrunk back and looked away.

I think at this point they realize their whole plan was not gonna work and they handed her her check and we walked out. It must really suck to get punked in your own office and get all limp dicked at the moment of truth.

I wouldn't have went back.  They can mail my check to me and then I'll mail their key to them.

ETA:  People still get actual checks these days?  I've had direct deposit for years now.  Learn something new everyday.

My GF was told that they were gonna make her cry before they gave her her paycheck. It didn't quite happen. Oh this all happened in front of all the other employees in the office. How embarrassing for them. Talk about backfiring.

So, I'm guessing getting a reference from them is out?  Regardless, someone did this to my wife when she left a company that was taking advantage of her.  They tried to make her feel about 2" tall for leaving.  The firm is now being investigated for fraud.  Glad she left when she did.

I really have no idea but my Wiki-Fu says:

The ™ symbol may be used when trademark rights are claimed in relation to a mark, but the mark has not been registered with the government trademarks office of a particular country or jurisdiction, while the ® is used to indicate that the mark has been so registered. It is not mandatory to use either symbol, although the force of convention is such that the symbols are widely used around the world. However, in various jurisdictions it is unlawful to use the ® symbol in association with a mark when that mark is not registered.

Sounds like it should be â„¢ in my opinion.

Threadjacking done, you may continue.

  Good on you man!

Very, Very similar situation to my wife when she resigned from her job 2 weeks ago.  She put in her 2 weeks, and it started a tidal wave of resignations within the company (soley because they treated everyone like crap, I guess she was well liked.)  Even though she had nothing to do with it, they said that she convinced everyone to quit, and asked her to leave immediately (they did give her a months pay though).  She needed to return to clean out her desk, drop off keys, and pick up a check, but her manager said she had to come by late at night when no one was there.  We both thought that this request was ridiculous and rather "wierd", so she decided that she was going in during the middle of the work day for safety's sake.  I'm glad that I went, I don't know what they were planning on pulling, but they were rather mute when I walked in.

I can take a lot of abuse and ridicule before I loose my temper, but if theres one thing that can send me over the edge with a quickness, its someone messing with my wife.

They didn't believe her when she told them she wasn't the one to report them?
People quit jobs all the time.  It is rude to try to make her feel bad or give her trouble at her new job.
I like how when they tried to intimidate her, they got intimidated right back.

Way to man up.

I find it comical how many of us today are complete pussies.

My wife got pissed once when I stood my ground and faced someone down on her behalf.  Her mom and sister set her straight in a hurry.  She apologized later.

Now she threatens people with me.    I didn't know it until I returned from taking my daughter to the Dr's office, where I had a meltdown and had the waiting room applauding, and nurses scurrying.  I came home simmering, and Mrs RM was smug.  "WTF, over?"

"I told them to get their act together or I would send you down there."

I know how your feel right now, and I predict pie for desert.

Few things are lower than men who get off on trying to intimidate women.

I also reward businesses that treat my wife well.

A few days ago we had some subcontractors come to the house to do the finish work on our drywall in the basement.  They very respectfully asked my wife for how she wanted things done (rounded corners, texture work, etc) and then did the work exactly to her specs.  My wife called me up at work to let me know the subcontractors where there, and told me how respectful they were.

They finished right about the time I got home.  I made sure to write them a glowing report, and gave them drinks as they were heading out.

9 of 10 cops, after talking to both parties, would have said "Sir, give me the check. Ma'am, give me the key," then exchanged them and asked the OP & his other half to go home.

In which case he and his wife would have left with the key and simply insisted they mail her the check, at which point she would mail them the key.  Either way, their attempt at intimidation failed.

I love this kinda stuff, assholes. My Wife worked at a small office long ago, lady quit on short notice due to a boss being a jerk. They told her she had to come and pick up her last check in person, refused to mail it to her. So one day her husband walks in, a little guy, maybe 5' 6" and well over 200 lbs. about as wide as is tall, tells the receptionist he would like to pick up Marys check. She call's the boss, he comes out and tells him " she must" come and get it herself, not him. The guy says " ok " and leaves. A couple minutes later he comes back in the office carrying a chain saw, ( not running ) just carrying it. He left with her check.............
