Right now I'm unemployed and don't have any insurance. I sold some property and am living off the proceeds for the next few years while I'm going to college full-time. I know people are going to say "get a job", I don't want to get a part-time job because I simply don't have time to work, go to school, look after my kid and still get the A grades which I will need later. Right now I'm paying $90/month for Megalife for my wife, my kid is on free state healthcare. I used to be on UnitedHealthcare through my old job but it was $200+ per month just for me. I never had any problems with United however. I got an email spam from the NRA with various healthcare quotes through ehealthinsurance.com and have been looking it over but I just have no idea what to get. I need something with Chiropractic coverage. That's the only health issue I have - sporadic back problems. In fact I think I have a bulging disc right now so I need to get on insurance quick for an MRI, Xray etc. I don't need any RX stuff, just doctor visits, diagnostic, chiro. My budget is like $100/month for myself or maybe $200 for the whole family. Anyone done the research on this area and can give some recommendations? |

I went through the personal health insurance nightmare myself and pretty much all of them didn't want to cover me at all or specifically exclude any pre-existing condition. If you don't declare them when you apply and they find them out during the records check then they deny you and that denial can show up on your records which can prevent you from getting coverage at other places. This is what I went through so it may not apply to you. ETA: When I went to college I got coverage through the school, is that an option for you? |

If you are all in decent health, find some catastrophic coverage. If you go with a high deductible, like $2,000, chances are you will get decent rates. Don't bother looking for full coverage insurance that pays for all checkups, OBGYN, physicals, dental, eye, and such and such. Think of it as car insurance. Only insure for the stuff you can't easily pay for, and shop around for good rates. Almost any office and hospital will give you a good rate if you are up front with the fact that you are cash only, and are paying cash. Think 50% discount. Why? Because they tack on the extra costs to the suckers who have really expensive insurance. Look into getting a Medical Savings Account. |
BULLSHIT, broke my knee a year and a half ago , 2 personal doctors, 1 emergency room, 2 ortho surgens. I have insurance on every thing but me and I'm still walking around on a messed up knee because I didn't have insurance. LOOK INTO INSURANCE!!! |
