I have a problem pack rat that keeps running across my exterior walls and into my attic, this being in Oro Valley AZ btw. I guess he gets enough traction on the stucco to run like a damn gravity defining lizard.

So what is the best way to get this bastard.  I was thinking Super Coberilla .22 ammo in my 10/22 to keep the noise down from my neighbors, and this will happen late at night since this is the only time I see the fucker.

Any other ideas?

I loaded up some birdshot .22 LR but I think at midnight its gonna be to loud of a report and ill see the famously tough Oro Valley PD show up saying WTF.

I live in a HOA style hood btw.

I dont think rat traps would work as this thing is flying NASA style and B i dont know where he is running to and from as I just seem him run across the front wall of the living room.

Old-fashioned spring rat traps work pretty well if you set them properly.

And seal up whatever hole the bastage is using to get in.

I did with Dupoint sealant a year ago, and placed traps in the attic, but after lastnight I think i never got him.

And i would have to hammer the trap on the side of the wall and i think he would just go around it.

peanut butter on traps and place traps deadly side up against a wall as to make a T against  the wall or barrier.

You should have him in no time

rat poison works..

they will gobble that gross blue shit right up and die..

i always put out a nice pan of sweet radiator fluid to quench their thirst after tuckin in to the the rat poison.. supposedly its the fluid that gets the warfarin to work bleedin em out... the radiator fluid being a poison too is better than a bowel of water....

I've never really been a fan of poison, it might be ok in a barn or shed but personally I don't want him to crawl into a wall and die.  Then I have to smell him for the next two weeks to a month

Ive had a drain pan of engine coolant, tranny fluid, outside for 2 months now and it already killed two pigeons lol.

So he aint drinking that by any means right now.

I would have to place traps from the ground to the top of the roof edge to keep him from running into the attic.

I want to shoot the bastard to be honest.  Man against wild lol.

Anyone know the habbits of a Sonoran Desert Pack Rat?  Where do they camp out in the day, where is he getting water, and so on.

From the time a rat wakes up till the time  it goes back to sleep it is thinking about one thing, FOOD. Well it might also be looking for some pie from a female rat too but my point is, is that as long as there is food close in the area he is, he will make it a point to stop and go eat.  You don't have to be in the direct path that he takes every night, it helps but if he can smell it he is going to try for it.

If you want to shoot him get a good air rifle and wait.

Why not use the super corbelli ammo instead?  Its like 500 fps out of a pistol so i bet on a 10/22 its closer to 700ish.

This always amazes me that secondary targets are not considered when guns are discussed in extermination.  Get some sticky traps. Ace hardware has them.
At least you can remoive the carcass. And save on costly repairs to wiring ceilings walls
etc.

Someone has to always come along and spoil the party..........Darn common sense patrol..

BTW I was thinking the same thing about the sticky traps

Its the power of an air rifle i think it will be ok.  At least I am not stalking it with my 7.5 SWISS ammo.

A rat trap, and peanut butter, peanut butter, peanut butter. You can throw him away when he dies, not have a stank ass dead rat  in your walls somewhere...

In an earlier thread, someone pointed out that rats cannot belch or barf. so if you can entice him with some Coca-cola, he'll burst himself.

I seriously think most of ya'll have never shot at a big rat. They are smart, fast, aggressive, and have an instinct for survival that has kept them alive and well for thousands of years. Corner one and he will bite the shit out of you. I was bitten on the lip in an underground bunker by one in Vietnam. Buddy had one chew the side off his left hand small finger after he passed out one night. I've had them attack in packs in flooded bunkers during monsoon season. You could sit your ass outside for a week with a shotgun and not get him, he wouldn't come around. I think someone here posted this:

Build a rat trap better cheaper than you can buy.
You need a small trash can 30 inches deep or so. fix a ramp up to the edge of the trash can, then fix a stout wire near the top from one side of the can to the other. Take a pop can and drill holes in each end just big enough for the wire to fit through but will allow the can to spin. Place the pop can in the middle of the wire with some tape at each end on the wire so that can will stay in the center of the trash can.
Now smear peanut butter on the pop can, put 12 to 16 inches of water in the trash can and you have a trap that will work over and over.
The rats or mice will walk up the ramp walk the wire out to the can and once on the can it will spin they will slip off and drowned in the water and the trap is always ready for the next victim.

We used to build these for mice using a 5 gallon bucket and a pop can. You might need or want to try a larger can for rats and that is why I said a trash can rather than a bucket. It needs to be deep enough so the vermin can never get out, that their feet can't reach the bottom, and have to keep swimming. I have rid the pestilence of skunks this way using a 55 gallon can too. For the skunks we would have trash floating in the water and the skunk would jump in to a sure death, and never stink.

Best bet.

No I have stared at this rate for a good 30 seconds everytime I see him when I come.  I just need to have the rifle ready to go in the truck so if i see him when i roll up, he is lead meat.
