You know, I almost hesitate to mention it, but the illegals could have EASILY made their situation better. Imagine this: They jump the border, learn English, and try their damndest to be as American as possible. When somebody speaks ill of the country, they give him the smack down. They work to shed their old culture, and adopt a new one. Imagine if they had done that. Do you think for one minute that most of the country would give two shits about the unsecured border? Oh sure, there would be some that (rightly) point out the security consequences of an open border, but admit it - they would be mostly ignored. You guys down in Texas, Arizona, California and New Mexico: How angry would you *really* be, if your cities didn't look like little Mexico? How angry would you *really* be, if everything was in English, and people dressed the same way you did? How angry would you *really* be, if the illegals didn't associate only with their own kind, preferring instead to blend in with Americans? They screwed the pooch, if you ask me. I know that guy in the video was not an illegal, but pretend that he was. Can you imagine most of the illegals being just like that guy? They could flock over here like crazy, and I bet most of us wouldn't give a shit. |

Wealth is relative. Illegals working in the US make far more than they could in Mexico so their relative wealth is far greater as Mexican citizens. If they become US citizens, they would live on the bottom rung of the social-economic ladder. But sending their income to Mexico allows them to rise above poverty. There are other benefits to the males living in the US while their families remain in Mexico...that being escape from the control of their mothers/wives. Mexico is a HIGHLY matriarchial society where the woman rules the house. In traditional society, this keeps the machismo of the Mexican male in check. But when the males escape this control, they are far more likely to get into trouble, be it DUI/drugs/gang involvement. |
