from:www.wluctv6.com/Global/story.asp?S=6809029&nav=81AX Ex Cop Sentenced For Rape Eleven to twenty years in prison. That's what former Iron Mountain police officer Philip Bal faces after he was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Richard Celello on Wednesday in Iron Mountain. ![]() "Your Honor, I stand before this court an embarrassed and humiliated man," Bal told the judge. Bal was convicted of breaking into an Iron Mountain woman's home and raping her in 2004. Bal maintains the sex was consensual. His attorney called the evidence against Bal flimsy. Judge Celello said the case was one of the most difficult he's ever presided over, but he said ultimately he had to trust the judgement of the jury in convicting Bal. Bal plans to appeal his sentence. He also faces a criminal sexual charge in Florence County, Wisconsin, but the prosecutor says he may now drop the charge since Bal is already going to prison for a lengthy term. |
Well, yes...in a manner of speaking.
