| Today, I saw a guy on a Harley cruiser with his son riding on the bike. Neither Dad or his son(approx 6-8) had no helmet on. If you're gonna have your kid on your bike, at least make him wear a helmet! And while I say people should have a choice with their lid, the dad should wear one to show a good example. The kid was wearing shorts too. |
Neither of them had no helmet on. That means they both had helmets, double negatives are not your friend... |
Are you a spelling cop too? |

I'm sorry, it IS my business if I see someone doing something so incredibly stupid and endangering a child. Last year I was coming and saw some dumbass, newbie tractor "operator" on his little farmette. Had a kid, maybe 5 or 6, sitting in the FEL, WHILE HE WAS BUSHHOGGING! ![]() It had been in crops until a few years prior, before it was cut into farmettes, so the ground was fairly rough. And he was moving pretty quick. One good bump, and he'd cut the kid to pieces before he knew what happened! (happens all too often) I got on the brakes hard and backed up into his field. When he made another pass by me, I walked out and read him the riot act. I'll admit, I was way out of control : probably purple and spewing a profanity laced rant. At first I thought we were going to go at it, but then I think he realized just how stupid he was.Sputterred something about "not knowing" and I apologized for my poor behaviour. remember, sometimes stupid folks don't KNOW they are stupid. |
You would then have to concede that a child riding on the back of a motorcycle is dangerous (it is), and subject to your intervention - helmet or otherwise. If he falls off, it's going to hurt. A lot. It's not your child. Let it go. |
Some things are inherently dangerous and some are just plain FOOLISH! I am not aware of a state where a minor can ride on a public road w/out a helmet. If it was legal, I'd let them go. If not, i'd have brought it to their attention, and then to that of the law, if need be. To me,at least, the tractor incident was incredibly foolish. And if I had driven on past, to later learn that the kid was chunked up, I couldn't live with myself. It's easier to ignore such things, but I feel obliged to step up for those who can't: ie, a kid can't help it if his folks are fools. Had some drunk off his ass idiot at the track last summer, with his maybe 2 year old daughter on his shoulders. He was staggering, and bouncing off the fence, tring to stay upright, heading for the parking lot! I was on my way down out of the stands, mainly to make sure he wasn't driving. About that time, he went down HARD, as did the little girl. Folks ran to help, and he got beligerant. Then he hot the ass beating he deserved, moments BEFORE he got cuffed. Maybe I'm being self-contadictory again, I don't know. I've always been a "let folks do as they please as long as they aren't hurting anyone" kind of guy, but sometimes I feel I have to try to take care of those too young to care for themselves, esp. when they are being endangered by someone else's sheer stupidity. |

Wow I didn't know we hated motorcycle riders here. I learn something every day. I have a small Honda Shadow bike which I don't put more than 1000 miles a year on sadly but when I am on the road I have a full face helmet, boots, gloves, heavy riding pants and super padded Kevlar riding jacket. I also don't take passengers. Partially because I couldn't live with my self if they got hurt and partially because I doubt my bike could handle more than me. -LTC- |
| What is really discusting is old popa harley riding down the road followed by old momma harley on her own bike wearing doo rag, tight jeans, chaps, biker boots, and a tank top so that you can see all that flab hanging down from her upper arms and flapping in the wind. |

I've always seen kids wearing helmets even when the adult is not. I think it's the law here in TX. I have concerns about this because when I see a rider in blue jeans, a tshirt, and no helmet I assume he's an idiot. If he's an idiot, he shouldn't have a juvenile passenger, Another thing that bothers me is when I see people riding around with their helmet on top of their head, like a hat. Another 1/4 second of effort would have pulled the helmet down over your head, then it's another 3 seconds to work the double D strap. I don't know if they do that where you are, but they do that here. Usually a younger guy. Hmm, I wonder why i don't see old guys doing it. |

i see that crap here al the time. the one that gets me is i have proffesional firefighter that routinely zips around the neighborhood with his 7yr old daughter sitting on the luggage rack of his 4 wheeler holding his 9 month old son. he doesn't ride slow and none of them were helments. i expect to find 2 dead kids in the middle of the street everytimei see him. |
Wow, that's really nuts. I can at least see why you might want to ride without a helmet, but why would anyone want to ride with a helmet half-on? WTF? |
It's about half and half. Start a lane-splitting thread and watch all the whiners come out of the woodwork. |
So you went into a profanity laced rant in front of his child? AWESOME |

I suppose no one here has ever smoked a cigarette with there kid in the car ( nice dose of carcinogens dad), or maybe gotten behind the wheel with their child after 2 beers(way to try to kill your kids dad). How about went out when it was really snowy and maybe dangerous to drive(you must hate your kids)?Nice to have so many perfect people here. I sometimes take my daughter on my bike down to the gas station or about 2 miles to her gymnastics class(where she could potentially break her neck what a bastard I am). All of life is a risk. With this attitude I should take her out of girl scouts because they swim and canoe and camp while I am not there to save her life. My daughter wears her helmet on a bike and nine time out of ten on my motorcycle. We've taken about a hundred rides together and almost all were with a helmet. How we managed to live on the ones were she didn't I'll never know. Even with a helmet a child is several times more likely to suffer a spinal cord injury than an adult. A helmet isn't a sure bet to save anyone from anything. I'm sure that coupled with the fact I own a HD and have a tatoo would make some of you scream that I'm an idiot. How about all the haters go back to living their perfect lives. |
