You can tell by head shape that it is a pit viper. A rattler is a pit viper. If you are in California, it is a rattler without rattles. See, though evolution, we (and all other predators) kill the ones we HEAR, so they are in fact evolving to NOT HAVE RATTLES!

Naw, they just want left alone.  They don't get uppity unless you screw with them.  Most folks that get bit by them live, though they cause permanent disfigurement a lot (mostly to people who don't go to the hospital).

yeah nothing like a large injection of tissue melting goodness.. if you dont die slowly of renal failure..you can look forward to limb amputation!!  Theres a store where you can buy all these snakes locally..really cheap.. Not sure why somebody would want one.. On the news a few weeks ago, some guy "lost" as couple of Saw Scale vipers he was keeping in his rooming house....

Saw scaled vipers are far more dangerous, even though small. Bite victims wind up hemorrhaging to death, after they look like they are recovering.

Someone out here started an anonymous media blitz a couple years back saying there Black Mamba had escaped.Gave a couple block location PD, and animal control were all over. Not sure what became of it, Hoax maybe?
