On Monday, he called on lawmakers to pass an assault weapons ban. Families of gun violence victims, gun safety activists, and state troopers joined the governor as he made his push today in Chicago. The governor urged house members to pass a bill that would ban large ammunition clips that hold more than ten rounds of ammunition. "One of the fights I want to fight throughout this summer will be a fight to ban high capacity ammunition clips, and effectively ban semi-automatic assault weapons," said Blagojevich. The governor also announced that he will call a special session so lawmakers can consider the bill. The chief sponsor of the gun-control measure said the state budget is the priority right now, not other legislation. |
