I was on the interstate when my front right brake locked up so I pulled off and found the first place I could(goodyear). I told them what happened, and they worked me in to the day( I waited 7 hours). The guy tells me I need claipers and rotors all around because they are all bad, to which I say bullshit I just need the right front fixed. He tells me I need all replaced and he will not do a "backyard fix" so needing to get home( 5hour drive) he replaces calipers and rotors. I tell him to check the brake lines because thats probably the problem, he kinda sneers at me and ignores my request. My bill $900.54. On the highway home my car pulls to left I almost wreck on off ramp. I arrive home in IA call local shop that usually does work for me. They just called back the problem was the brake hose not working so the right front brake did not work. cost- 110.00.

I called the other shop back the manager was not in and the guy there did not have authourity to refund 900.54.

What would you do? I plan to get my money back. I did not need brakes all around they just put shiney parts on with a big bill for cash and did not fix or diagnose problem. I might have crashed and died. Fucktards.

How the hell does a brake lock-up?????

You must have had some serious parts failures going on.

Good luck!

Reminds me of when my dad took my 68 Mustang to Midas to have a new exhaust put on because the one I had was too loud. It was supposed to be a birthday present. I wasn't thrilled but didn't whine or cry.

I was less thrilled when the exhaust crushed my rear brake lines on the freeway, causing a leak, quickly leaving me with no brakes at all.

Call corporate, they will fall all over themselves to avoid a lawsuit.

Sue.

If they're a corporate-owned chain type of place, go to the Corporate office.  Believe me, they'll refund you ASAP and chop off a couple of heads.  Huge liability here.

But if it's Joe's Penis Pumps and Brake Repair, you're going to have to sue.

One Or More Brakes Lock Up:
When you step on the brakes, the car veers sharply to one side or the other and a wheel may or may not lock up.
Possible causes:

  1.

Brake pads/shoes are loose or broken: Replace the brake pads/shoes as required.
  2.

Bad front disc caliper or rear drum brake wheel cylinder: Replace or rebuild both front calipers. Replace or rebuild both rear wheel cylinders.
  3.

Loose or bad front wheel bearings: Replace bad wheel bearings. Repack and retighten loose wheel bearings.
  4.

Brake pads/shoes are contaminated with grease or oil: Replace the brake pads/shoes as required.

Let me guess, MillerSHO:

1. It was an American car and thats why it failed.

2. It was not turbocharged and thats why it failed.

So instead of fixing the problem, they just disabled the brake that had a problem, and sold you some ridiculously expensive brakes?

It can happen to anything.

Its happened to two of my friends, one with a '92 Lumina Z34 and the other was a newer Grand Prix.

Look, I don't want to get into this too be honest.

I ask a question, the OP answers and that's that.

I wasn't going hyjack or anything so just leave it at that and I'll wait for the OP to say what kind of auto it was.

GN87,  just remember  that you started this one.

They didn't diagnose shit. Seems they just threw parts at it. How old is the vehicle? Mileage? Flex brake lines will usually fail in a way that stops brake fluid flow to and from the caliper. Open up the bleed valve and if there is plenty of fluid coming out, most likely a seized caliper, if the fluid trickles out or is very hard to bleed, the flex line is bad. Easy to check. Get your money back, dispute the charges.

Damn I'm glad i learned to work on my vehicles, but being out on the road where you cannot do your own fix can suck. Even telling these yay-hoo's what to check falls on  deaf ears because they are "experts" and listen to nobody. I swear they grind down their micrometers so that every rotor is "too thin the machine." Crooks

96 Ford Taurus, GOODYEAR Tire company, Paid with credit card. Kind of kick myself for not walking out right away when I felt funny about the fix solution but I needed to get back on highway and they knew it. I called store manager will be in7-10 during buisness hours. No refund = credit card dispute or sue.Fixing the real problem -brake hose cost 110.00 at local trusted shop not 900.00

I don't see how a faulty brake hose can cause the brakes to lock up.

Hope the guy at Goodyear ends up losing his job. He was definitely trying to rip off a stranded motorist.

Happened to me.  The hose was old and the inner lining disintegrated.  It plugged the calipers causing the fluid to get stuck in the caliper and it would not release.  There was so much pressure in the calipers that it blew the seals around one of the pistons.

I got a quote from Midas for something like $1100 to replace one caliper, rotor, and pads.  I took my truck home, walked down to the local mechanic/parts store and picked up rotors, calipers, pads, and hose.  Replaced both sides (the other side was in bad shape but Midas didn't catch that) and flushed the system for $600.

Chain auto-repair places are habitually crooked or inept. I'd rather take my car to Ray Charles for serious work.

The brake lines going bad has happened to me, as well. It was so bad that after about 3 or 4 presses on the brakes, I had to pull over and bleed off some fluid before it would release. Slapped a set of new flexible lines on it for $15--problem solved.

Like I said, you got some serious stuff going on, not just simple pad/shoe wear.
